I have a 2007 bruteforce 750 it backfires thru carb and exhaust when you open the throttle exhaust pipe gets red hot starts and idles fine went thru carbs twice am thinking a timing problem

Try balancing ans syncronising the carbs.
BALANCE THE CARBS
Turn the throttle screw on the LEFT carb one half turn inward. Now start the engine and get it warmed up. With the engine running, remove the RIGHT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the left carb to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.

Now turn the throttle screw on the RIGHT carb one half turn inward. Restart and rev the engine. Next, remove the LEFT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the right carb to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.

Turn the idle screw on each carb EXACTLY ONE QUARTER turn outward and restart the engine. The engine will be probably be idling very fast. Adjust both the idle screws equally from this point to get to the desired idle speed.

SYNCHRONIZE THE CARBS
Remove the air filter and rubber fittings to allow you to see into the throat of both carbs. You may need a mirror to see inside. You need to be able to see the slides go up and down when you twist the throttle. Now turn the fitting where the cable goes into each carb such that there is just a bit of slack in the cable, 1/16" is plenty. Lock ONE of the cable adjusters down tight. All further adjustments will be made on the other carb.

With the motor turned off twist the throttle very slowly while looking at the slides. Both slides need to begin lifting at the exact same moment. If the slides don't raise at the exact same time then slowly twist the throttle until the locked adjuster slide just barely starts to move. Hold the throttle still and turn the adjuster on the other carb so that the slide on that carb just barely starts to move also. Now recheck the slide movement timing. Do this process until the slides on both carbs begin to raise at the EXACT same moment. Lock down the loose adjuster and re-check the slides.

If you have used Dyno jet kit I have had a kit come through with smaller main jets than the stock ones causing it to run way to lean.

It sounds like you may have or will be jetting your carbs. I did this using the directions with the kit and used the Clyman manual for this bike to show me step by step how to remove the carborator. You will only need to attach 2 of the 4 hoses on your carb. syncronizer. If I remember right, you need to remove the bolt-on cooling fins to expose the engine block. The is a black screw or bolt that you take out and screw the threaded metal adapter of the sync tool. Be careful using the sync tool. Be very light on the throttle or the vacuum in the cylinder will **** in the mercury from the sync tool - not good. The problem you are stating on idle & backing off sometimes happens when the carbs are running rich (too much fuel) Hope that gets you in the right direction.

I have a 2001 yamaha yz426f that backfires after start and shoots flame from exaust and the exaust gets so hot it glows red.


Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Faulty main circuit breaker and or connections.
4. Faulty ignition coil and or connections.
5. Faulty spark plug, oil or gas fouled, wrong heat range or service type, wrong gap, loose in the cylinder head, broken electrode or insulator.
6. Faulty spark plug cables, leaking or broken, internal damage.
7. Faulty ignition module, switch, CKP, MAP, CMP, sensor and or any connector in the ignition circuit could have corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets
8. Burnt exhaust valve or air leak in the exhaust system.

My 1999 Honda shadow backfires on deceleration after steady throttle what could cause this? I have tuned it and cleaned the carb but it still does it.


The most common reason for backfiring is lack of back pressure from changing the exhaust. To compensate for the flat spot you get you put in a jet kit. This leaves the possibility of more unburned gas getting into the exhaust. Honda uses Kei Hin carbs with a fuel shut off diaphragm to help limit this condition (backfiring) by turning off the fuel to the carbs during deceleration. Even stock exhaust can pop or backfire. Typically it is caused by air getting into the exhaust either past the copper o-ring gaskets in the head or leaking muffler connections from the head pipes to the mufflers. Try replacing all the exhaust gaskets and you should minimize this condition.

Wont stay idling and backfires


could be 2 different things,#1 could be the carb that needs cleaned and adjusted( i would try that first,easy.)....#2 valves need adjusted ( is the exhaust pipe getting red hot where it comes off engine?) the factory settings for the valve clearance is 0.04 for intake and exhaust both (with stock carb and head)

2006 TTR250. Bike will not idle unless choke is fully engaged. After a minute or less of this the head pipe (the one that comes right off the block, I don't know if I have the name right) becomes glowing...


two things you have to oberved. Choke is only applicable if you experience hard starting in the morning,If yes then use choke for a while till you got your motor idling stage.the glowing red hot indicates that your engine is flaming hot, this means your choke is steadily on.( never stay your choke steadily on.).Try to clean your carb , carb cleaner will do. even without dismantling your carb from the engine manifold.Rev your throttle and spray through the air intake, you'll notice a foul sound bcoz the cleaner is mixing with your gas,it's fine.also you'll notice a black smoke while doing a full rev. it's also fine , thats the carbon that need to push out from your carb. take it from there my friend ...let me know the result.observed your bike

run a can of Seaforam in the tank..purchase from Autozone put in 1/3 to two gallons gas drive it around for at least 10 miles to insure it cleans out the whole carb system.if that doesnt work, check all carb hose fittings when bike is at idle spray some Chemtool B-12 ( also at Autozone) around the carb hoses and manifolds..if idle increses thats your problem. Caution: chemtool is very toxic wear gloves and a mask.

I had a high performance pipe on my bike, it got damaged, put stock pipe back on and it ran fine for a couple of months, it started to backfire at idle and with throttle off but still had plenty of power. ...


I would take a close look at the valves, if you are sure the carb is entirely clean. (Accelerator pump and everything)
A closed up exhaust can harm an exhaust valve.
Start with a compression test.
Good spark?
Is the plug wet?

2. Did you damage the petcock or fuel control?
