check for spark at plug if spark at plug then squirt some starting starting fluid in carb see if will start it should run long enough to burn out starting fluid if does check for water in gas if is drain tank and carb bowl put in fresh gas not and repeat not old gas you were using strat lawn mower if still dosnt start rebuild carb and add and additive called seafoam to the gas this is good stuff follow instrution on bottle
Not sure what you meant by starting fluid didn't make a difference. If it fired (tried to start/run) after using starter fluid, then fuel flow is the problem. One technique I've used to troubleshoot a mower someone gave to me, is to place my hand over the air intake of the carb and see if I can keep it running by choking with my hand. For me, its worked, and basically it proved that the carb was bad. If this works, then try cleaning carb...replace needle valve and float if necessary. A repair didn't work for me, had to replace whole carb ~$80. If the solution is a repair is to the fuel system...do not spare expense in the future on using NON-ethanol gas or good additive that neutralizes the effects of the ethanol. Small engines, especially ones not used daily, will suffer damage from ethanol gasoline. A cheap price to pay for the aggravation your going through now.
spark plugs are deep in the head yet you should get all the the old fuel out first, stale fuel wont ignite and will also clogg fuel filter. you need a mix of atleast 70% new fuel even then its not good for the injecters. If its a manual gearbox a tow start is a quick fix although no go for auto's. cant be much wrong if car was fine when parked, plugs-fuel-filter and possibly fuel pump for sure. If that doesnt fix take plug out put in lead and crank engine to be sure you have spark even just put any plug you know works in lead leaving your plugs in engine just to check for spark y turning over engine looking for spark on plug good spark will be blue but any spark is good.
There are a few things I would recommend; get some Marvel mystery oil, remove spark plug and fill cylinder with the marvel. allow to sit at least overnight before draining and pull the starter a couple times to free up the piston rings. While you are waiting, remove the carb and fuel tank - flush both with starting fluid first then fresh fuel. If you are familiar with carburetors and air / fuel jets, count the turns on each respectively to bottom then remove. Soak in starting fluid for at least an hour and flush out respective ports with starting fluid then carb cleaner then fresh fuel. Use non - lubricated starting fluid as you want the highest concentration of Ether to break loose the varnished fuel.Flush out fuel lines and primer bubble ( if equipped) with fresh fuel and spark plug out. You can best do this by re - installing fuel tank and filling with fresh mixed fuel, adding the fuel stabilizer at double the recommended strength - this will not harm the motor, just help it start and stay running. Place an air hose blow nozzle in the mouth of the tank, wrap with a clean rag and gently blast air into the tank until 1/4 of fuel in tank has passed through. Cap tank and turn saw over to drain the fuel out of the cylinder, giving it at least 10 minutes to drain. Now replace spark plug and follow starting procedures - you should have it running strong now!! If it refuses to start or sputter in the first 5 pulls, remove spark plug and shoot a 2 second blast of lubricated starting fluid into the cylinder. Install plug and start. You may have varnish issues due to the lengthy storage time and you may be better served by getting a rebuild kit for the carb and rebuilding it or even replacing carb. Fortunately 2 stroke carbs are much easier to rebuild than a 4 stroke. Good luck!!!
hello, usually when gas sets in carb for a long time it turns into a varnish, you will have to take carb apart and clean all jets out, even the fuel pump may be clogged up, you will probably have to rebuild carb, unless you have access to air line to blow any and all jets, pretty much all passage ways, power jets, in other words you have a carb problem, you may need a new one, unless you have a strong solvent, that will break away any varnish or gum up.
Is your fuel pump working? are you getting fuel to the carb?
1. check for spark
2. check for compression in all cylinders
3. check carb (if it's been a long time since it was last started, you will need to just take the carb apart and clean it or get a carb rebuild kit. rebuild kit is easiest route and once you do that, you are done fussing with it.
4. Diagnose the problem.
a. try starting fluid directly into the carb. If it fires up then quits you have a fuel delivery problem. Once you figure out that, you can trace the problem back from the motor to the tank.
5. If you don't have any spark, try new plugs, then try new wires, then start going over your electrical system
Both types would use fuel enrichment to make the fuel/air mixture richer for cold starts. Motorcycles deliver extra fuel to the intake through small holes in the intake bore when the choke is activated. When cleaning, use something soft like a plastic broom bristle (not metal wire) to avoid scratching the inside of the jet or passage.
Replace the carburetor. It is not fixable, even though you can buy a rebuild kit for it. Been there, done that-- had to learn the hard way. What?? I said to myself. I've been fixing these small engines (shade tree) for years, and we always could rebuild the carb and adjust for peak performance. I absolutely refused to believe that my "rebuild" didn't "fix" this carb. Hard to believe, but true. Replace the carburetor. This is your "something new" you've learned for today.
