The cams will stay in the cam plate while removing. you just need to get the push rods out and push rod tubes out. You can get magnets in the lifter holes to keep the lifters up while removing the plate and cams. after removing that you can pull you oil pump. Make sure you replace all the gaskets and not reuse the o rings.

Where is speed sensor located 2002 fatboy

Hi Anonymous, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs. 2002 fatboy with oil in the air filter

Hi Anonymous, oil leaking from your air cleaner is caused by oil carryover from the engine. For what ever reason the breather system is not seperating enough oil mist and air from the piston downstroke. There are cheap and quick easy fixes and there are more exspensive ones. Start by trying the following:
1. Run your oil level half way between the add and full mark when hot.
2. Run oil breather lines from head into a TEE fitting below carb/induction module then a single line into a mini filter under frame.
3. Purchase Arlen Ness Super Sucker.
4. Replace umbrella valves and realign oil pump
5. Upgrade oil pump and cam plate
Good luck

2002 FATBOY, AFTER SITTING A WEEK, CHANGED OIL AND FILTER,VERY LITTLE OIL CAME OUT, ASSUMED ENG. OIL LEVEL WAS LOW, BUT NO OIL LEAKS DETECTED. ADDED 3 QTS , ROAD BIKE ABOUT 20 MILES. NOW ENG. IS LEAKING...

The Oil Capacity is 3.5 qts. (3.3 L) are you sure you pulled the right drain plug, and drained the ENGINE oil? The engine oil drain hex bolt is located on the right side of the motorcycle and is removed/installed horizontally.
Transmission oil drain hex bolt is located on the left side of the motorcycle and is removed/installed vertically.

In my first attempt to change my engine oil, I drained oil from bottom of my 2001 Fatboy, from the plug on the right side towards the front of the engine, just below the Twin Cam Cover and floor board,...

I'm not that familiar with the Twin Cam engine but from what you're saying, Harley has a drain or something in the cam chest of the Twin Cam engine. This is something new for Harley as the previous engines had no means of draining the cam chest. I would imagine that this is what the oil you saw was, oil in the cam chest waiting to be pumped back to the oil tank by the oil pump that is located in the cam chest. When you restart the engine, this area will again fill itself to the proper level.

Good Luck

2002 Wrangler Sport. 4.0 My oil pressure gauge hit rock bottom, the engine made soon clanking sounds and died. I pulled the valve cover but dont see any bent rods. What else should I be looking for...

The main bearings and connecting rod bearings. The cam bearings. The wrist pins. These are the first bearings that get oil from the oil pump. When you take the oil pan off to replace the pump pull one of the rod caps and check for scaring and color change.

Where is oil pump on a tril blazes 2002

Your oil pump is mounted to the underside of your engine block, inside the oil pan. To say it is buried would be an understatement. Depending on clearance to remove your oil pan, you may have to pull the engine to gain access.
