SOURCE: Red key shaped light flashing on speedometer

The red key indicator is to do with your security system. When you turn the ignition on and put the handlebar control to the "RUN" position, power is applied to the fuel pump inside the fuel tank, that is probably the sound you are hearing.

The red key indicator usually flashes to show that the system is armed.

If you have a problem the only way to really find out whats going on is to have a dealer check the bike for trouble codes, this is usually done by connecting a computer to the data plug on your bike (this connector is usually found under the seat near the battery).

Hope some of this helped.

SOURCE: How to wire a tach on 05 heritage softail

Locate & route Black lead to ground / 2004-later softail: On the frame strap under the seat directly in front of the battery.

Locate & route the pink lead to Signal / For 2004 & later FXST/C/I The #3 cavity in the connector {39b} on the back of the speedometer. The socket terminal on the signal (pk) lead fits the #3 cavity.

Locate & route the Orange and white lead to power / Ummm.. it's saying for 2004 and later to adapt to the fuse block For earlier [ For 1996 to 2003 softail: locate the power lead (o/w) in the tail lamp pin connector {7a} under the seat behind the right rear corner of he battery.] "here you are looking to run it to a fused line, not directly to power/battery" I hope this helped.

SOURCE: what is the proper PSI reading on a oil pressure gauge when

Oil pressure on a Harley. This is a subject of a lot of different ideas. So, I'm going to tell you this, if your oil light ain't on, don't worry about it. When people come into my shop wanting an oil gauge put on, I ask them they want to scare themselves like that.

A Harley Davidson is built using roller bearings and needle bearings on the crank. Unlike the shell type bearings used in other brands of motorcycles, a Harley engine does not hold a lot of oil pressure. It can't due to the roller bearing design. It is a high volume low pressure system. Unlike the shell type bearings used in the other bikes, the roller bearings have a gap between the bearings. When the bearing rolls over the hole in the crankpin, you'll show pressure. When the gap is over the hole in the crankpin you'll show less pressure because the oil is squirting out to lubricate the engine. The oil pressure light TURNS OFF at 4-5 pounds of pressure. The amount of pressure you will read with a gauge is effected greatly by the temperature of the engine as well.

The best way I can tell you judge your oil pressure is to look at it when you first crank the engine cold. It should come to about 50 pounds or so. After the bike warms up and is idling, you may show almost no oil pressure depending on how accurate your gauge is.

Now, you want to know what I trust as an indicator of my oil pressure? My ears. A late model Harley such as yours is equipped with hydraulic tappets. If your oil pressured drops too low, they will start clattering to beat the band. There will be no doubt in your mind that there is something wrong. So, as long as your bike is running smoothly and quietly (for a Harley) ride the fool out of it and don't worry about oil pressure. Just run a good grade of 20W50 oil that is rated with an API rating of CG4 or better for use in diesel engines and you'll be fine.

2000 FXD super glide..47k miles..riding at highway speed my battery got super hot, tach stopped, speedometer stopped and then engine stopped running.i can not touch battery box without burning my self.s

Check the regulator. It sounds as if it has packed in, when the engine is at idle the alternator output is low, but when revved it will be higher, the regulator controls the top end of the voltage range. Also check the battery connections are tight and free from corrosion.

Need 2000 dodge grand caravan manuel. The dash instrument panel stopped working after a battery replacement. The light work. The tach and speedometer are pinned all the way to the right. ?

Digital Odometer??
Try this procedure and let me know if this worked for you. I have done this several dozen times and it helped reset the Instrument Cluster.
1. With the Key IN the Ignition and in the OFF (not On or Start)Position
2. Push in and hold-in the Trip Odometer Reset button.
3. When "sof 4.0" appears: release the Button and WAIT.
4. There maybe some "E" Codes that may appear.
5. Continue to let the System run its course. There should be a great light show on the dash along with the Tach and Speedometer needles dancing all over the place.
6. In about 30-seconds it will complete it's reset cycle.

Again let me know if this helped, or if you have additional information or questions REPLY in the Comments Section of this Post.

Defective tachometer and speedometer

Do the following:1)key in the ON position:remove the 7.5 gauge fuse.Tach needle should read "0:". 2)put it back,go on the engine and unplug the green plug on the igniter -the big one, with 5 or 6 wires on it.The needle on tach reading should be zero.If not you have a short circuit on the black wire between that plug and the plug on the conbination meter.3) If the reading is zero with the plug disconnected, the black wire for the tach is short-circuited inside the igniter. 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Speedometer and Tach not working

sit in the drivers seat close the door. with the key off hold the trip odometer button in then while holding the button in turn the key on. if done correctly this will put the MIC (mechanical instrument cluster) into a self test. if the speedometer does not move like the rest of the gauges during this test the MIC must be replaced. if the speedometer does move it is likely your problem will be fixed, however, if the speedometer does move but it does not start working properly then further diagnostic will be needed.

Speedometer/tach stopped working

There are 2 sensors on the engine that sent a signal to the computor and speedometer and tach. When one of these goes bad it can make the speedometer and tach go all over the place and also just stop working. This can also cause all types of engine running problems because the information being sent to the PCM will be incorrect all so. The units are easy to replace once you find them, it seems that they are located in different areas of the engine with each year the vehicle was put out.

Reset service warning light

Try this. I can't promise this will work though. Make sure the trip meter on the speedometer is set to the odometer. Turn the key off. Push and hold the trip reset button on the speedometer and turn the key on. Hold the button until the light goes out. This works with a lot of cars so maybe it will work on yours. Let me know something.
