Question about Motorcycles
Checked the keyway, found okay, cleaned carb, and now think should check the valves. Anyone got any better ideas?
How long was the moto4 sitting? and did you pay close attention to the low speed jet that it is not blocked, the most common problem is the carb if the unit has been sitting for long period of time and the small jet will be blocked so you need to make sure its clear.

I have been working on my carb today, the pipe from the bottom of the carb should just run down by the bottom of the swinging arm, there should be another pipe from the pipe on the left side of the carb just above the fuel intake which also runs down to the swinging arm and connect to nothing.

I had a similar problem with my TTR 125. I removed the carb, removed the float bowl and gave a a careful clean. I also removed the choke plunger mechanism and gave that a few shots of penetrating lube oil. The choke mechanism works much smoother as a result.
Just those two simple things and my bike fired up right away.

this prob happens allways in carburated engines that the car or motorcycle is running lean or rich . because the air - fuel mixture ratio is not right . so you should open the carburator and remove the air filter you will find two screws in the lower front section of your caeburator. you can adjust them by a screw driver until your car is smooth
