Normal driving,Mac scanner showing about 190 degrees (hooked up to OBD and giving me continuous readings while driving).Guage will read 3/4 up and maybe a tad higher.EVERYTIME I slow down or stop, the guage drops down quickly to around half (more normal) and remains there untill taking off a cruising again where it slowly goes back to 3/4 high.Mac scanner isnt telling me any major differences in temperature no matter if im stopped or not.I do not know if i have a faulty guage,or where the guage specifcally is reading from.Bad ground? Also coolant temp sensor is new.No change in guage performance.
Coolant temp sensor and thermostat are new. Mac OBD scan tool is plugged in and telling me the engine temp is maintaining around 190 degrees no matter what my guage is reading.Coolant temp sensor and thermostat are new. I would look else where for the problem unless the thermostat is stuck open. Thermostats work by blocking the water to the radiator until the coolant in the block has reached operating temperature and then they start to open. As soon as they read a cooler water temperature they will start to close and restrict the flow until the operating temperature is maintained . IT would make no difference which thermostat you fitted as the number indicates when it starts to open. I would be checking the temperature sender unit and the gauge and I would be checking the coolant level in the radiator at the cap not the resevoir
sound like thermostat sticking close.replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap.if already done.you could have faulty water pump.if engine overheating at long slow traffic line or setting at a stand still.the engine cooling fans should be running, check and see if cooling fans running if not, check cooling fans fuses and relays.if all is good, hot wire make sure coolings fans okay.if all is good, code scan vechicle for faulty engine coolant temperature sensor and ecm problems.you need a code scanner where you can check live data check see if coolant temperature sensor reading correctly if engine coolant temperature is 190 degrees the coolant sensor. the scanner suppose to show 190 degrees in temperature if not it reads 80 or 90 degrees the engine coolant temperature sensor is faulty need replacing.if all is good check engine oil if look like milk shake blow head gasket will cause over heating.to be on the safe side i would replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap first.to make sure engine coolant circulating through radiator and engine block.
COOLING FANS DONT TURN COULD BE FAULTY FAN RELAY.FAULTY PCM AND FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR.CODE SCAN FOR FAULTY PCM CODE AND A FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR.SEE IF ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS GIVING CORRECT COOLANT TEMPERATURE USING A CODE SCANNER.IF ENGINE IS 190 DEGREES AND THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR READING 100 TO 80 DEGREES COOLANT SENSOR IS BAD.HOT WIRE COOLING FAN TO SEE IF FAN MOTOR WORKS.BECAUSE COOLING FAN MOTOR COULD HAVE OPEN CIRCUIT CAUSING ELECTRIC MOTOR NOT TO TURN ON.
YOUR ENGINE OPERATING RATING TEMPERATURE SUPPOSE TO BE 190 TO 200 DEGREES. IF COOLANT SENSOR DEGREES IS SHOWING 190 OR 200 DEGREES IT WORKING.THAT RIGHT.IF ITS SHOWING 60 OR 80 DEGREES IT FAULTY. AND ENGINE WILL RUN POORLY.
Over heating can be caused by a faulty thermostat and or weak water pump and dirty radiator and old antifreeze or the radiator fan now working when at idle but should not over heat when driving. Service the cooling system if it has never been serviced before. Replace the thermostat, buy some radiator flush to clean out the radiator and heater core. Just follow the instruction and replace the antifreeze and make sure it's a 50/50 mix water/antifreeze. If you not sure how to mix it 50/50 you can buy them 50/50 premixed. Water boils at 100'C so you need antifreeze mixed with it but antifreeze does not have the same heat transfer as water so you cannot run 100% antifreeze cause it does not transfer heat fast enough and you over heat. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, Be glad to help, once you service the cooling system and your still over heating, then we look at the water pump.
