No spark at the spark plugs but have spark at the points@

    How about some background on the bike did you just replace the points etc.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
5. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting/leaking, spark plug cable connections loose check for spark leakage in the dark.
6. Faulty ignition coil or electronic control module.
7. Faulty pulse coil.
8. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
9. Faulty ignition switch.
10. Faulty run/off switch
11. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
12. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

Hi, your plug number for an NGK plug is D8ESL As far as the plug socket size it is a 13/16 deep well socket. The gap should be set at .07-.08mm.

Cleaned distrubiter on 1977 crystler 105 hp now i have spark some coils are firing har and some are very week could it be that i havent gapped the points accuretly or my cdi box isent working?

What ignition do you have? Motorola, Magnapower II, ??
Look if your ditributor shaft hasn't too much side play.
If some plugs have good sparks and other no sparks, check your plugs ( get new ones, they cost not a lot... ) Check plug leads for cracks in their insulation. RE)check the conserned distributor cap points...

What is gap

Hi, Mike pertaining to engine spark plugs, "GAP" is the distance between the positive and negative electrodes at the base of the plug and is measured in thousands of an inch or mm by using a round pin gap gauge or flat blade feeler gauge. Every engine manufacturer has a specific design-size-heat range- gapped spark plug. Gaps will vary depending on engine brand. John deer 110 got spark at points but no spark at plug

If this is a Kohler engine make certain that you have replaced both the points and the condenser with new parts. You should not see sparking at the points if they are installed and adjusted correctly. For Kohler, the correct point gap should be about .020 inches - use a gauge. Don't assume that your spark plug is good - replace. While the number of spark plug failures is few I have had it happen.

Spark at points, but not at plug

It sounds like you must have a relatively old bike to be dealing with breaker points. If you are sure your points are OK, I would suspect the condenser next. They are relatively inexpensive (if still available for your bike) and usually require only a mounting screw and a connecting screw to replace.
Next, check the ignition coil and the high tension wire to your spark plug. Of course, I'm assuming that you are working with a good spark plug.

I have a 67 triumph 650 bonniville tr120 custom chopper kick start only, it wont start. i put my hands on a spark plug wire and try to kick start and it wont shock me. what could it be?

just because you put your hand on the wire doesn't mean its not getting spark, pull the plug wire off the plug,, insert a screw driver in the end of the plug wire (you'll need help with this,,) have a friend hold the screwdriver close to a bolt on the motor,, crank it over and see if you see spark , It should arc from the screwdriver to the bolt, ( it has to be very close to the bolt but not touching, if you see spark,, pull the plug,, attach the wire back on the sparkplug,, and repeat the same thing, Only place the tab of the plug next to the bolt,, spark = you have spark,, if not ,, replace the plug

How to set points

Remove spark plugs to make engine easier to turn over.
Rotate engine until etched line on points cam lines up with the rubbing block on one of the points.
Set gap to .015"
Rotate engine 180 degrees and repeat.
Reinstall spark plugs.
Hook up timing light to left hand spark plug (cylinder #1)
Start bike and hold throttle about 2500 RPMs.
Shift point breaker plate left/right until timing marks align.
Hook timing light to #2 cylinder.
Run @ 2500 RPM.
Adjust remaining point sub-plate (on main point plate) until sceond timing mark aligns by timing light.

No spark checked points they have spark how do I check coil assy. or change wire to spark plug a OEM ignition coil is spendy

If the points are working correctly you are having a problem with the condenser ,coils,spark plugs,or spark plug caps. Honda condensers are notorious for being week. Spark plug caps have resisters that burn out or corrode. Coils can go bad but do not usually go out in pairs. Plug wires can short out the spark if the are old and cracked or wet. One coil does two plugs so on shorting wire on each coil will kill all the spark.You can see this if the bike is running at night where it is dark. Aftermarket Accel coils($150-$200) might be a good option along with an after market CDI ignition (may still be available through Parts Unlimited about $200). I suspect that your problem is still the points. Power is going to them but not leaving them. Even new points may have to be reinstalled several times before they decide not to short to ground.

I just purchased a honda cb250 1975 no spark

If there is no spark your points are probably dirty or just grounded out. Try a new points and condenser set. Install the points carefully so the new set does not ground. I assume you already tried new spark plugs and spark plug caps.

Wont start up. seems electrical 1975 Yamaha dt 400 What should I check?

check for spark at the spark plug.. if no spark at the plug check the coil for spark where the plug wire plugs into the coil. that bike probably has points. check the points gap.
