Question about 1978 Yamaha RD 250

1 Answer

Are rd250 muffs the same as 350rd mufflers?

Purchased a 1970 rd 250. Bike came with a extra set of pipes from a 350rd. These muffs are in great condition compared to the ones on my bike. Pipes look the same. Will these pipes bolt up and perform as stock replacements?
Thank you

What oil is recommended for the oil tank in a 1974 yamaha rd250?

The 1974 RD 250 has a two cycle engine. The oil tank is for engine oil injection. You will use a good quality 2 cycle engine oil that is recommended for oil injection. Fill the tank and remember as you drive the level will go down, so keep an eye on it. If the tank runs out of oil you will ruin the engine. Also there is oil in the clutch/transmission case. There should be a site glass or dipstick attached to the filler plug. After you remove it do not screw it in to check the level (make sure the bike is sitting level). This is a different type of oil as well. I hope this helps! Rod

I may buy a 1976 Yamaha RD400. Has sat for about 10-15 years. What should I look for to tell if it's got any value or if it's a boat anchor? I'm first check kick start for turn over, gas tank...

Hi,,,the major things,as it has sat for so long will be,,gummed up carbs,,hardened crank seals and rust in the tank..

You can jump start it but i dont reccomend it.

Price will vary with condition,,both external and engine wise.

They are a great bike,,,good luck with it.

Can i fit the top end of 1977 rd400 on the bottom end of a 1974 rd250?

I know the rd250 and rd350 interchange. The rd400 cylinder base gaskets are the same as the 250 and 350. You just need to know if they have the same crankshaft stroke is the same and the if the piston pins are the same diameter(they are also a different pn#).

Please forward me the wiring diagram of the 1974 Yamaha RD250 as the wiring of my bike needs to be attended.

Go to the site below and you can free download an Owner's manual. There is a 1976 model manual there that will have the same wiring harness. Cheers!

07 kawasaki kx250f backfires

Hey i have several solutions for you.
The first is have you checked valvue clearence lately, because if the valvue clearence is either to high or to low then it could cause it to back fire. The next solution is repacking your silencer. The next solution is there is two main gaskets in most dirtbikes, one, which is located where the pipe mets the motor. Also the other gasket it where the mid pipe meets the head pipe. The bike fire is usually being caused by extra air. By the way checkin valvue clearence is extremley easy it may sound hard but I do after every ride.
