Question about 2007 kawasaki KLR 650

2 Answers

Rough engine running

With only 1,000kms covered my '07 KLR650 has developed a habit of stalling (read 'cut-out') when de-accelerating approaching an intersection. It also appears to hesitate while accelerating up to speed.
Could the problem be water in the fuel? or is it something electrical?
I've had no previous problem, the bike is fitted with a after-market muffler, chipped the engine & air-box mods, all to help develop more hp.

Appreciate any help,

The KLR does not normally respond well to aftermarket mods other than slightly increasing the size of the low speed circuit enrichening. Since the KLR for 07 does not use electronic fuel injection I wonder just what "chip" might be involved in your mods. Problem does not sound like water in fuel if it mostly occurs during deceleration. Deceleration requires sufficiently enrichened mixture to prevent uneven and stalling performance. Sounds like a problem with the enrichener circuit in the carb.

"chipped the engine"... If you have done modifications and now your engine is not running properly, remove the modifications and see if they go away. It could be any of the things you mention, but it is most likely related to the chip installation.
