96 polaris 400 sportsman carb vent lines... where do they go?

I have a mikuni carb for my 96 polaris sportsman 400 2 stroke and it was in pieces when I purchased as a project. My question is there are 2 carb lines , 1 has a one way valve and the other is an open line. Where do they connect to the carb ,is the one way line connected to the topof the carb or below by the carb bowl? and which way does the one way valve go? thanks!

if thats the 2 stroke (pretty sure it is) you have to watch the crank seals on those. cause running probs and eventually destroy the motor.

2004 sportsman 400 4x4 shuts off after running for while. Blow air into the flue tank and will run again.

It appears that you have fuel venting problem or a float level set too high. Check the entire fuel system for kinked / blocked fuel lines/ filters and check the float level or fuel manifold pressure if it has one.

1996 Polaris Sportsman 400 Will Not Start

If your atv has been sitting this long, the carb is probably stopped up internally... take the carb to a qualified professional and have it cleaned and set...(take a few pictures so you know where all the hoses re-attach)

ALL it takes for an engine to run is:
1. A timed spark
2. Adequate compression
3. Proper fuel/air ratio delivered

well there are a couple of things that can cause this to happen. first check your oil and coolent. odd sounding i know but this can cause it. second check and make sure your cluchs are working correctly. next if all that fails then i would check the air intake for blockages and then service the carb.

the rubber line is an atmospheric vent and it routes down along the frame and out from under the bike tward the back, if there is gas in that hose then that means that the needle and seat are not sealing off inside the carburetor causing the engine to flood solution would be to rebuild the carb that is giving the trouble, but i would rebuild them both while u had them off.....good luck happy atv'ing
