Olympus FE-230 7.1 Megapixel. When I turn on the Camera. The display screen is a light purple. Unfocused and lines through it. I thought maybe it was just the screen display but as I went to take a picture. Thats exactly how they came out. I cleaned the tip of the lense thinking maybe it was smudged or something. Still nothing. Does this happen often?
I have had the same problem with my camera this past year. It happened to me after it got a little wet one time, but then it came back to normal. However, it has periodically recurred over the past year for no apparent reason. It is currently in that state and has not returned to normal, so I don't know what to do.

The Olympus FE-230 requires you to use a xD M-Type memory card to store your pictures on. These are usually available fairly cheap at Wal-Mart or Best Buy. When you insert your new card into the camera, the message will go away and the screen will appear its normal brightness.
Press down on the cursor pad (marked with a one-handed clock) to toggle the self-timer. Start the self-timer by pressing the shutter release button.

It's possible this is a repair issue with the LCD screen of the camera especially if you are able to review previous images but cannot take any new images. You may want to call Customer Service to discuss repair options. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.
I have had the same problem with my Kodak Z812 IS. It is caused by a bad image sensor, a costly repair unless it is still under warranty. Does it happen mostly with macro photos?
