Check the bulb first, then the fuse.

Brake light doesn't work

Hi, Anonymous this is geared towards Harley's but the principles are the same before diagnosing any brake light issue always check the bulb and fuse first for integrity a brake light staying on is usually caused by the front brake light switch, which is mechanical, not disengaging. On early models moving the throttle control housing closer to the front brake master cylinder is the main fix. On late models, the switch gets tweaked and needs to be realigned. A brake light that does not come on when the brake lever is applied can be caused by a faulty switch or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. The rear brake light switch is hydraulic and it is extremely rare to malfunction in a closed circuit condition causing the brake light to stay on. Usually, rear brake light switch issues are caused by no brake pedal free play or a sticky rear master cylinder piston. A brake light that does not come on when the rear brake pedal is depressed can be caused by a faulty switch, air contamination in the brake line, or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. Brake and tail light only work sometimes and the fuses are good

when i had my problem it ended up being a sticky spring return switch that connects to the rear brake pedal.

Tail gate light constanly on

Recheck the fuse or just replace it if this circute is fused,
I have run across fuses that have had a hairline break and look ok.
Also check your wiring connectors for corrosion.

Harley sportster 883 2005. Both the tail light and break light filiment stay on with no difference when brake is applied.

Not sure I understand your question. The tail light filiment goes on with lights and brake light filiment goes on when brake is applied. The extra filiment makes the tail light go brighter. If both filiments are on when lights go on then applying the brake won't change the intensity. You might have bad brake light switch causeing brake light to stay on.Have to do some checking to see if it's front or rear switch.

00 CBR F4 brake lights dont come on when applied

Have you tried powering the brak circuit itself at bulb. If it comes on then you need to find broken wire between light and switches. Since neither work if you can trace to where they meet break should be behind that.

Rear brake light will not come on when rear brake is applied

If your brake lights are not coming when pressing the foot brake this means that there is something wrong with the switch..Have a closer look near the brake lever and you will see a spring attached to it which in turn is connected to the brake switch..Try to pull it down and if you see your brake lights working then you only need to adjust the spring setting..Else try to make a manual close connection and if it goes on then replace the switch..
