I would double check your battery FIRST. It could be a bad starter, but typically if it is clicking it might just be your battery. The least expensive and quickest solution is to hook it up to a charger, and see how it does. Cheers

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description could be any of 2 possibilities:

  • starter relay/solenoid; and/or
  • starter motor.
To determine which, jump the 2 bog terminals of the starter relay when starting the bike; if the motor turns, the relay/solenoid is defective; if the starter motor does not turn, the starter motor is defective (most likely the carbon brushes).

To determine the location of the starter relay/solenoid, follow the clicking sound and would look like the image below.

While the starter motor would look like this

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Of course other possibilities still exist, such as:

    • loose, corroded battery, relay, starter terminal/connectors;

    • weak battery.

    • open, corroded fuse/fuse terminals.
    Cheers.

Sounds like a weak solenoid on the starter. Probably needs starter replacement. Those cars need a mechanic to work on them.

2001 Ford focus se automatic wont start. Makes clicking noise when you turn the key. Replaced starter and still clicks and doesn't start for awhile. Is it the battery...fuel pump....spark plugs...?

Battery-that should be checked first, remove it and take it to a Pep Boys, Advance or Auto Zone for a load test (free)-99% of the time, it is NOT the starter with your symptoms.

I have a clicking noise coming from my fuse box and the van wont start

Had a caravan that sat idle for a couple of months. When I put a battery in it and tried starting it the asd relay started clicking like a stopwatch and wouldn't stop until the battery was disconnected. Plugged in a code reader and it would start and run as long as it was plugged in, unplug the reader and it would die. Turned out to be corrosion on the secondary ground wire where it bolts onto the negative battery terminal.

My car was smoking were the spark plugs are at and it was making a sound under the car like a clicking noise now it wont start

The smoke is most likely an oil leak.

The clicking and won't start most likely a dead battery try jump starting.

Clicking noise when trying to start car, battery is ok, wont start

That Clicking is the Battery causing it not to Start. You need to Replace that Battery or at Least put a Charger on it for a Couple of hours to see if you can Salvage it for a While.

The starter motor solenoid has burnt contacts, that is the noise you hear, replace the starter or the solenoid if u can just buy that part.

What is it doing exactly, any clicking, buzzing, any noise at all, or nothing, no sounds at all? Especially in the starter area.
