2001 flht speedometer stoped working

a good place to start looking would be the speedometer cable.

remove the battery cables and touch them together to remove residual voltage leave disconnected for 1 hour then reconnect and read codes in computer

If you have a speedometer cable, not a wire harness style, ...unthread the end at the speedometer head, and spin the front wheel. If you see the inner cable turning, you know the adapter and cable are good, and your speedometer head is the problem.

Dear Sir/Madam, The problem is electrical. The speedometer/odometer box needs to be removed from behind the steering wheel (or after removing the steering wheel)...The bulbfuses behind the panel need to be changed and new electrical connections made for the speedometer/odometer to work.

mine stoped working and i had to do a cluster diagnostic by pushing and holding the milege reset button untill the diagnostic test starts this might solve your problem

Sounds like the coil. Had the same problem with a Sportster, changed coil. As coil ages it breaks down, heat expands internal connections and coil fails. When cooled, coil contracts and the contacts come back together. This COULD be your problem, not sure. Do you have a buddy that will let you try his coil for a test?
