On the right side of the crankcase there is a little see through glass, fill the oil until the you can see the oil in the middle. you must have the bike in a straight up and down posistion.

Or you can use 600 ML of oil for a oil change or on a re-built engine use 650 ML.

WHAT TYPE OIL GOES IN THE LOWER END? ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF MOTOR LOOKING DOWN THERE IS A BLACK OIL CAP. WHAT OI DO I PUT THERE?

If you are talking about the transmission oil , 10w-40 JASO MA motorcycle oil will work. Most racers will use either an 80 wt (weight) motorcycle gear oil or for the racers edge a 70 wt motorcycle gear oil to increase the life of the aluminum plates in the clutch and help preserve the transmission gears.

What gearing for honda cr 250

Usually, it seems that changing the front sprocket is more cost effective and easier to do. The front sprockets are about $10-$20 and rears are normally around $40-$50. Usually 1T gearing changes made to the front sprocket are the equivilant of a 3T-4T gearing change to the rear. I personally would go up on the front instead of down on the rear. Right now your gear ratio is 3.846 (meaning every 3.846 rotations of the front sprocket, the rear sprocket makes 1 rotation) If you go down 2T in the rear (13/48) your gear ratio would be 3.692 giving you a little less torque and a little more top end. If you go Up 1T in the front (14/50) your gear ratio would be 3.571. This would be about the equivilant of a 46.5T rear sprocket. (If they made it) The nice thing about doing the front sprocket first is the cost. If you decide it's too much difference and you want something in between, you can put the stock 13 back on and then change the rear (and you would only be out the $$ for the front sprocket) If you start with the rear and decide it's not enough then you change the front you're out the $$ for the rear.

Pumping oil out of breather tube

is it the engine breather tube you mean if it is then chances are there is to much gear oil in the gear box causing it to be spat out of breather just drain gear oil and refill with correct amount which is usually on the engine casing clutch side
hope this helps

1987 Honda rebel 250 shifting problems

make sure you have proper amount oil in your gear box, i would change it since is 1987, check the cable, over time it things tend to stretch, squeeze the clutch handle fully, check if it pulling the clutch arm fully, if its not lift fully it will be also hard to engage and disengage the gears. low oil, dirty oil gives the gear very little lubrication will also cause the problems.

My bike starts up fine when i put it into gear i can rev it up but won't go anywhere is this a clutch or a gear problem

Your best bet is to remove the right side engine cover. Not just the clutch one, but the one with the water pump in it. Here you can see the drive gears that connect your crank to the clutch. Also, your clutch is there. Drain your gear oil and antifreeze first.

Oil

Hi KK
Use 600 ml is you are changing the oil, or 650ml  if you have just rebuilt the engine and filling from dry. Use light weight gear oil.
