Most likely the safety switch for the kickstand - it's supposed to kill the engine if the kickstand is down nd you put the bike in gear. That switch could be faulty or a wiring issue with it. Use a meter to check the switch.

check fuel switch, is it on? most times the fuel from the last ride that wasnt used collects in the fuel bulbs, and gets used first, but after that no fuel no go!

SOURCE: 83 suziki GS450 idle issues

the problem with the rubber was close but on the gs450 there is a metal insert that even if the rubber was rotted away the metal seals aginst the head so it cant leak. the problem is on the gs 450 suzuki used a cheap throttle cable that kinks behind the gas tank and kinks at the bend to the crabs under the set and the throttle system is a pull only not a dual cable pull push to always close the throttle. if you start the bike a wiggle the bend in the cable that comes out from the twist grip you will see it changes the idle. with either your finger or a screw driver and push the plate down on the carbs that the cable connects too. if the idle drops this conforms your problem. order a new cable from dennis kirk they have the revised one that has metal adjustment screw and metal clip in. better jacket casing as well.

If you have the stock computer replace the power commander with the stock computer then see if the problem still remains. If it goes you can be sure the problem lies within your commander and it will need to be remapped or replaced...Good luck

SOURCE: my bike shuts off at the stop sign and red light

Check fuel filter and drain carb bowls. It sounds like water or debris, shutting you down.

A Sticky clutch springs to mind in that scenario.

Engine off
Put bike in 1st gear
Pull the clutch in

Can you push the bike forwards?

You can also try running the bike on tick over until the bike is fully warmed up to heat the clutch plates.

I have a '98 Niss Frontier XE.Lt gray smoke comes out of exhaust, trans slips in 3rd gear, cant pass 35mph w/out turning O/D off. chk eng light is on.can I check for the prob w/out taking it to shop?

White or light gray smoke could be an indication the head gasket is leaking or even blown. The motor will also run hot and you lose cooling fluid. I would not use the car for any other ride then straight to the repair shop.

Car Shakes Violently On 1St Gear

It sounds like you have a blown throw out bearing for the clutch operation. Fix it soon or you'll do a whole lot more damage to the drivetrain.

What does white smoke coming from exhaust of a 01 'suzuki gsxr 1000 mean when starting only?

For motorcycles with 4-stroke engines: The white smoke from the exhaust means that the engine oil is leaking into the combustion chamber where the petrol burns. ... This eventually means that you have to get your piston changed along with the piston rings that prevent the engine oil leaking into the combustion chamber.

Tranny struggles to shift to 2nd gear on fast take offs only sometimes on normal take off. fluid looks good and no leaks. i hope my tranny dosnt need replaced, its my only car and work is 20 miles away....

you should have this scanned at a at good transmission shop . its can be tough situation to solve these issues when concerning trasmission issues. even tougher when you cant afford mechanical issues even worse transmission issues like differentals ,shift solenoids ,pressure solenoids ,etc. i just noticed rereading your situation you dont mention any trouble with 3rd or 4th gear i assume no problems 3or4th gear and take off in 1 st i assume is no issue either. just to let you know w/transmissions there can be simular issues with different solutions, couple of things first check for a air modulator valve, driver side between transmission and radiator it will have vacuum line on it going to your intake make sure all the way connected or need replaced. also right below your modultor is a transmission mount have someone help you for this. have someone put the car in drive hold brake firm and give it gas see if the trans mount is sloppy or broke if it is fast acceleration would cause your shifting problem 4 sure esp going to 2nd gear. tras mount $65 modulator $50 . 1 nut holds air mod. on easy do it your self fix. dont forget o ring if replace the air mod. . cheaper then $1800 to $2200 good luck hope this helps you..

Bike shuts down when shifting to 1st.

May be possible that clutch is disengaging when shifting to first and/or drive not fully switched into first gear. Your 1st gear light may be lit, but actually isnt in a ready state.
