The most common causes are:
1. Gas cap seal leaking
2. Defective EVAP VSV valve
3. Broken Charcoal Canister Air drain valve diaphragm (same as this one)

Toyota does not sell the Air Drain valve individually. You have to buy the whole charcoal canister assembly which includes VSV & pressure sensor. Dealer cost may be over $300 bucks. Air Drain valve is only used during refueling. If may be plugged if you don't want to replace the canister assembly.

P0446, This is a EVAP code, check the gas cap is the seal torn?Do you tighten the gas cap properly,If there is a circuit problem this will reside in the CCV (canister closed valve),VSV (pressure switching valve),or a disconnected hose at the charcoal canister,if anything just replace the gas cap first, clear the code and go from there

SOURCE: toyota camry 1997 3.0 v-6 code p0446

That code is for the evaporative emmisions system. Here is a link to an open forum you can go to, this will help you understand what it is, and why. The vehicle on the site is a van, but the code, and parts involved are one in the same, so don't worry about the difference in vehicle. The van is a toyota, and this is the information on the p0446 code. Hope this helps you.

This fault will not cause any driveability related symtoms, it just turns on the check engine light. But that is not saying it is impossible. She a trained technician and have further dianostics run on the code.

1998 toyota camry, 2.2L 4 cyl. P0325, P0441 and P0446 trouble codes

Code 325 is for a problem with the knock sensor circuit, code 441 is for an incorrect flow with the purge valve and the vent for the gas tank, and code 446 is also for the vent control circuit.
I would clear the codes and see how many come back after a test drive. You may need a shop manual to test the circuits.

Check engine light with p0446 code

P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to battery voltage on the control circuit, P0446 will set. Code also may refer to ECM detecting that EVAP system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test.
SymptomsThere will be no obvious symptoms to driver, other than MIL illumination.
CausesA code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Possible SolutionsWith a P0446 OBD-II trouble code, here are some things to try:
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
  • Replace PCM

Need to know what PO440, PO441, and PO446 codes mean for a 2000 Toyota Camry

p0440 is the evaporative emission control system p0441 is incorrect evap purge flow and p0446 is evap vent control circuit this means the charcaol canister is defective the only problem is they are in the rear of the car above the gas tank and they are metal when you gas up your car there are warning signs DO NOT TOP OFF TANK meaning when gas pump shuts off do not put in more gas ! reason being is the gas overflows into the metal canister and gets trapped and absorbs moisture , and you know what water does to metal .... rust ! no signal to solenoid = check engine light and codes sorry to say you are looking at about 600-700 dollars to fix
