SOURCE: 89 iroc camaro starter wiring connections?

I'm assuming there are 2 wires. On most starters there are 2 threaded posts. One will be chassis ground the other one will be electrically isolated on an insulated standoff, this will be the positive (usually red) wire from the starter relay which is usually somewhere close to the battery. If there is only one wire then it will be the postiive and bolting the starter in is "connecting" the ground. Make sure the mounting area is clean.

1995 camaro z28 audio problems

Hi Jamie, Here's an old trick which you may find useful. Take a run down flashlight cell and confirm the wiring to the speakers by holding the earthing line of the speaker cable to the negative and flash the positive side with the feed to the speaker one at a time. With each swipe you will hear a thump from each speaker as you connect and disconnect. In that way you can confirm the cables are the ones you are connecting. Color coding is not always the same. Use a voltage test meter to confirm the constant power and ignition power and don't forget to earth the set once all other connections have been made, Withour an earth it won't work, but you know that anyway. 1990 camaro was bought 3 weeks ago has a

I believe it is electrical, and someone,
1.Has tried to bypass the use of the correct ignition key,
2.Or a fusible link for the starter is blown.

Does the ignition key have a chip on the side of it? The 1990 Camaro uses an ignition key with a resistor on the side of it. (Chip)

I had a guy install a radio, cut many wires, then wired it up wrong.
I found fusible links in the engine compartment that were blown, and wires that weren't hooked up correctly.
Took a couple of days, plus the wiring schematic for the engine compartment, and interior, to figure out what he had done!

My suggestion would be to find out if the ignition key fits THAT car first. (Dealer info)
Find out if it's the correct steering column.
Then look under the engine compartment to check out the starter wiring. You'll need 1990 Camaro wiring diagrams.

The prior owner bypassed the ignition switch with that push button momentary switch, because either/or a fusible link has melted through, or it is the wrong ignition key. (And maybe a different steering column complete with key switch!)

The 'Chip' on the key is a resistor, and THE correct resistance is needed to bypass the theft deterrent system.

I have a 1986 gmc c10 where the headlights dont work the altenater has 3wires cut and dont know where they go it was switched over from a 454 to a 350

The 10 gauge red goes to the stud on the back of the alternator, the brown and the red or gray (depending on the wiring) go to the regulator. What colour are your wires?
Also, what kind of alternator are you putting back in? The old style with the square white connector, or the new style with a funny-looking square connector?
(Remember, the 10 gauge wire connects to the stud, and out of the other 2 wires, one turns on the regulator and the other one turns off the charge light on the dash. The old style alternator is marked L for light and R for regulator.)
Headlights? Different animal altogether.

I just dropped a freshley built 355 sbc into my 89 camaro rs. I have eliminated all unneccesary wiring(a/c,smog and such) as I am going with a simple system. What is the proper way to run with just an...

Alternator: Old style alt with two wire plug on top back edge of case with internal regulator.: hot wire from start side of ign switch to a 10 ohm 6watt resistor, to terminal #2 on alt. Jumper wire from B+ large terminal on alt to term #2 on top plug. B+ wire to Battery. (70"s Cadillac wiring)
Distributor : 12volt from "run" side of ignition switch to distributor (using old style HEI dist. with vacuum advance and no computer connections) 12v can also be used to power aftermarket "upgrade" ignition.
Numbers are usually stamped into alt housing but if I remember correctly looking at the back the one on left is #1, right is #2 Battery (B+) is the large wire connection.
