2006 HD Sportster 1200XL rear cylinder not working

We have just had the 5000 mile service done at Harley. The ambient temp has dropped to the 30s and now rear cylinder doesn't get hot and motor sounds like its only half running. This problem happened the day before we took it in for 5000 mile service and it was cold outside also.HD said it is carburated and has no error code. When I picked it up it was warm outside and drove fine 50 miles to our house. I went to garage today to start it and problem is there again and it is cold in the garage. Any ideas?

Sounds like an ignition problem. Probably a fowled or damaged spark plug or lose or damaged spark plug lead. Try new spark plugs, I only recommend NGK and you may need to fit hotter plugs for cold weather riding. Plugs are cheap and thats the best place to start.

Replaced rearbrake press switch, now i dont have rear brakes,2004 harley davidson sportster 1200xl

if all you replaced was the switch.. back it out a couple turns and make sure it isn't blocking the port. I've seen aftermarket come with a longer thread that blocks ports. pedal should be stiff if blocked.
if the pedal is free than it must have gotten a gulp of air. sometimes takes forever to get it to moved

Aligning crankshaft marks

Camshaft timing procedure for 1982 harley davidson xlh 1000 cc
On the pinion gear there is a timing mark.
This mark will line up with the rear cylinder intake cam.
There are 3 marks on this cam.
One will line up with the mark on the pinion gear.
One other mark will line up with rear exhaust cam and the front mark on the rear intake cam will line up with a mark on the front cylinder intake cam.
The front intake cam also has a mark on it that will line up with the front exhaust cam.

What oil do i use for a 99 1200xl sportster

You can use one or the other. If you use regular oil, Harley 20w50 goes in the oil tank and Formula + goes in the primary. If you use synthetic (Harley Syn 3) the same oil goes in both oil tank and primary.

The spark plug is only firing on the rear cylinder, I have replaced both plugs, both plug wires, and coil. all parts came from HD dealership and all parts are OEM replacement parts and still only fires on...

Swap the spark plug wires and see it the moves from the front cylinder to the rear cylinder. Your Sportster should have what is known as a "dual fire" ignition system. This means that both spark plugs fire every time the piston comes to top dead center whether the cylinder is on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke. This causes what is known as a "wasted spark", the spark plug fires on the exhaust stroke. I don't have any experience with bikes made after year model 2000. Most of these bikes are equipped with electronic engine controls that I don't care to learn about. I work on bikes made in 1999 or earlier. I feel pretty confident that Harley still uses the "dual fire" ignition but I'm not sure if they have any other sensors on the bike that would cause the problem you have. Try what I suggested and it may give you a clue as to the problem. Other than that, I have no other suggestions. Sorry I couldn't do more.

Good luck
Steve
