Thanks, I did found it, two bolts, remove seat and there it is.

Dealer replaced battery. Bike sat in showroom for couple of years. Batteries do not last long when sitting that length of time without being used.

Merry Christmas to you too. Were expecting alot of snow here in CT tommorow.

Hi! I must confess as to not having a lot of experience with your Model however have you carefully tried taking the side panels just below the seat to reveal battery? one side maybe air filter other side should be battery and tool kit?
Hope this sorts it? Press blue FixYa button to show me please.
Merry Christmas!

Hi, Jason it's either behind the right side panel or under the seat for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. Where is the battery?

What kind of bike? Most batteries are under the seat. Ducatis have their batteries under the gas tank, above the engine.

How do i remove the seat (and charge the battery) on a 1980 650 maxim yamaha

As you know, your battery is located under the seat. You will find a couple bolts holding the seat down - remove them. The seat will come off easily. I dont suppose you still have the owner manual in the little compartment under the battery, do you? That would be very helpful to have. You may find additional particulars at the Yamaha web site (the rider club section). You can expect to find a generic owners and/or shop manual there which may aid you.

Normally battery can be accessed afterremoving or opening from under your seat or from a side cover pull panel. Good or excellent?

Replace battery

If you have the owners manual it will show you where the battery is. Let's assume there's no manual. Remove both sidecovers, if not there remove seat. Remove bolts holding black and red wires on the top of the battery and any brackets or straps holding battery in thenpull battery out. Replacement is just the opposite procedure. Insure red wire is to positive + side of batt and black wire is to negative - side...Good Luck to you

I Have Honda Shadow 400s. My battery is dead adn I want to replace it but cant locate it. i removed the side covers and its not their. I assume its under the sit but after I remove all screws sit still...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To your concern:
  • Where is the battery and how do I change it?
Under the seat inside the battery box. In some versions, there are 3 Phillips screws that hold the cover. Pls note the location of the +/- battery terminals. Not all batteries have the same location/position of the terminals. If the battery has not been replaced for some time, dipping the battery terminal connector in very hot water would remove corrosion.
  • How do I remove the sit if needed?
If I remember right, just 2 Allen screws (left & right) between the seat and pillion (rear/passenger seat). I have seen version where there is a third screw at the back of the pillion. Once all screws are removed, lift the rear seat slightly and pull back (towards the rear of the bike). The front/driver seat also would require a slight lift and pull back.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
