Question about 2000 Yamaha YZF-R6

2000 r6 running rich or flutters at 2500 rpm

2000 r6 idles fine, just above 2500 rpm it goes dead or a kind of flutters after that it is fine
pilot jet 38#
mixture screw 3 turns out
please let me know whats the problem

Idle flutter


Hi Anonymous, popping, coughing, spitting, or backfiring through the carburator or induction module can be caused by air getting sucked in combustion chamber do bad intake seals leaking. Leaking exhaust gaskets can also be suspect. Remove air cleaner and backing plate, while engine is idling spray WD-40 or Brake Kleen around intake manifold to head area, if RPM's increase you have an intake leak and seals need to be replaced, also spark plugs will be burning whiter than normal. I have a 94 yz250 has plenty of power but is spitting oil and after about 20 min of riding goes dead but will crank back up right after. doesnt do it if I ajust the carb to run rich.


Spitting oil indicates that it is running rich. It could be down on compression which will cause it to run rich. The rings don't last forever in these bikes and need to be changed every once in a while to restore proper operation.

I am betting you are turning the air screw to "adjust" it to run rich as you stated. This screw only effects the lower RPM - it is actually a fine tuning screw to adjust the low end - specifically the pilot and needle jet. It has very limited effect on the jetting above maybe 1/2 throttle. The proper way to alter the way the carb acts is to physically change the jets in the carb. The pilot is for lower end performance, the needle is for the lower-mid range and the main is for mid to mostly upper RPM range. The float level also plays into all this.

To attempt to answer your problem - it could be that your spark plug is incapable of firing once it gets overheated. An overly rich mix will prevent it from doing it's job also and can burn a plug out. Try replacing it with a fresh plug and you might want to clean your air filter and check your compression. You should have at least 150PSI. I've seen bikes run with as little as 95PSI but they run poorly and are hard to start.

I have a 2000 yzf 600 it has dynojet kit stage1 and d&d exhaust. It idols good, but after 2000 rpm's to 4000 rpm's, it cuts out and kinda flutters. After that it runs great up to 13000...


Get your bike set up on a rolling road (Dyno) this should cure this problem. Whenever you modify the induction or exhaust system on a production Engine system there will be a compromise. Manufacturers set up these systems to be optimised in all conditions, this will mean less power or torque in certain parts of the rev range.

2004 r6 starts but won't stay running what I do


Hi, Mckinneym697 and the usual suspects are:
1. Idle circuit and transfer ports clogged.
2. Air fuel mixture adjustment too lean.
3. Pilot jet clogged.
4. Faulty accelerator pump.
5. Float level too low.
6. Float bowl contaminated old fuel, water, dirt, rust, etc.
7. Float bowl vent or overflow tube clogged.
8. Fuel flow to carburetor restricted.
9. Intake manifold leak.
10. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
11. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
12. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.

Sputter or back presure 2000 Buell Blast


If starts fine and idles,pilot jets are operating,if bogs under power,check air filter first..no filter to lean...dirty filter to rich.Check fuel filter for unrestricted flow.Have the feul/air mixture screws been turned? Factory is 1 1/2 turns out from bottom

Will not go above 6000 RPM's


clean the air filter really good along with the air box and clean the carb. clean the pilot and needle jets and check the float. i got to run so this gona be cut short but just check that **** out thats probly it
