Question about 1989 Honda XL 600 V Transalp

Oil in the stator?

I'm replacing the stator in my Honda XL600R, there is oil inside the cover. Is there supposed to be a seal behind the flywheel, can't imagine what would need lubricated under this cover.

Thanks, Jim

I need to know where the stater is, and how to change it myself on my 1983 gr650 tempter

Your stator is bolted into the left engine cover , You will need a stator and a gasket. Simply drain your oil into a clean container so it can be put back in later, unplug the stator from the harness behind the side cover, unbolt the left side cover of the engine, gently tap on it and pull it off, the stator in in the cover and can now be unbolted and replaced. If your bike battery slowly loses it's charge over a weks time , you may have a weak magnet on the flywheel. Very hard to diagnose, all you can do is replace the fly wheel if the new stator does not fix a slow discharge problem.

There is oil in my stator on my 1977 Kawasaki 1000 what is the problem? and what do i need to do to fix it? thanks

your case just leaked oil throught the crankshaft seal. you need to take off the stator and replace the seal behind it. you might have to tear down the motor and take out the crankshaft. but its definately the seal

Took cover off there was oil inside is this normal for a c90 to have oil in the stator cover

My clymer manual says yes. Oil is there.
The first thing I have to do is drain the oil and pull the oil filter.
I'm replacing my stator this weekend btw.
I'm not a mechanic, but I'm well inclined and have lots of knowledge and friends that know more than I do.
I hope to have a successful stator replacement on my '07 C90T by 09/26/09
My replacement stator is $173 from regulatorretifier.com. It's advertised to be improved and puts out 20% more juice. It will be in Wed. 09/23
I'll watch your page for updates. . .Joe

Alternator does not work. Oil leaking out of engine.

send me an email and I will send you a copy of the repair manual in .PDF format. chadschloss78@aol.com

the alternator is supposed to have some oil there. there is supposed to be a gasket on the stator cover. check on ebay for a used alternator or you can buy a new one from the dealer, or go check out the one from electrosport. be sure to check the magna forums for lots of great info.

I have an oil leak from where the stator wires come out of the primary cover. Is there a way other than changing the whole stator to fix it?

you have some seals that are leaking from around the crankshaft the stator is supposed to be sealed from the oil you wont have to change the stator just the crank seal
