1982 Yamaha Seca Turbo (XJ650LJ) Had the carbs

Mine was stored for 20 years, I ended up replacing the seat and needles, cleaning them thoroughly and when I tried starting it, nothing!! No gas was going to the carbs, it turned out to be my gas pump, it was seized by the old gas remains 'varnish' so I had to clean it numerous times, soaked it in gas cleaner (short period at a time 15 minutes or so, being a very powerful cleaner, you cannot leave it for long without causing greater problems, thus I was able to get the pump going by boosting it with my car batterie, having more cranking amps directly to the pump, the pump was able to release itself from the old crusty varnish.

I have a 2004 dakota. how do I determine if my fuel pump is bad? it turns over and over but won't start. are they difficult to change?

Not bad as long as the fuel level is low, you will need to drop the fuel tank and remove the sending unit, the pump is part of the sending unit,to remove the unit remove the top lock ring, this is a plastic ring on top of the tank that hold the unit , hope this helps,6a943a8.gif

What you do is buy a new unit, kind of pricey. then remove your fuel tank for access, and replace the fump and level sender as a unit.

Need to change fuel fump, not sure of its location.

what is the year, make, and model of your vehicle? some electonic fuel pumps are located in the gas tank, while mechanical fuel pumps are located on the side of the engine depending on the vehicle.
