Is the speedo electronic or cable operated? If cable operated there are a number of things to check. Firstly remove speedo cable from back off guage. Remove speedo cable from speedo drive generally front wheel. Check that the inner is still one piece, by spinning. If that is good you need to check if your speedo drive is functional. Screw cable back to drive, lift front wheel and check if cable inner is turning, if it is you may need a new speedo. (spring worn like my old Triumph.
Hi Anonymous, before you run out and by a new speedometer check every connection in the speedometer circuit, look for corroded, broken or loose pins using a dab of dieltric grease repair as necessary. Hi, Anonymous for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Hi, Try rotating the cable within the speedometer covering sleeve, with your hand fastly. If there is some movement in your speedometer, then there is some problem within the rotator inside wheel fittings. If not try replacing the speedometer connecting cable and this should work. I hope this is useful to you
If your unit is cable driven, get yourself an old piece of cable and insert it up into the speedo and then spin the cable while watching. If the needle jumps its pretty much assured the speedo head is ok and that your problem is in the cable or in the front wheel. Bill
