The Kawasaki is very easy to work on but you will need either a press or a special set of case splitting tools to split the cases. The right side engine case comes off easy but the left side is difficult. I can walk you through the entire process but I need to know just how far you are able to tear the engine down before I start walking you through the job.
One thing, I don't believe in "micky mousing" anything, if you want to fix your motor just promise you will do it right. Trust me in the long run you will save lots of money and heartache by doing it right.
When you get back to me I'll also give you a list of what parts you will need to put your bike back together. I can even give you the name of a shop that I think will give you a very good price on parts and they have an online parts manual so you can see exactly what you need and give them the part numbers.

Bike stood for 5 months. gears click in but bike does not go

Hi, Anonymous you may have a clutch issue for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. Have a 20001 kdx 220. need to know fuel oil ratio

40:1 is generally the ratio for this bike, as long as it was jetted correctly for that ratio and hasn't been messed with.

If you don't know the bike's history, check your silencer isn't ejecting any excess partially burned oil and there's not excessive smoke, also check the spark plug to see how its burning. It should be chocolate brown.

Hi, Score4awhite for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $10 you can download another one. Kdx 200 clutch not engaging properly

The clutch in your bike is a wet clutch. There is a lot of hyrdostatic friction even when the clutch is released completely. I think a large factor is the type, age and condition of oil. Perhaps something as simple as an oil change would help.

I have a 2005 kdx 200. bike starts and idles perfect, when i put the bike in gear the idling drops and the bikes wants to pull forward as if the clutch isnt engaging, but when i rev the clutch seems fine,...

the cluck need to be looked at as its draging its not fully disengaged witch is what makes the bike pull forwards when you put it in gear have a look at the free play in the cluch cable and if there is a lot take some out this will help to disengage the cluch a bit more but dont take all the free play out you need a little left in say 1/4 of an inch is plenty at the handelbars

Hey guys, for some reason I cant get my rotor off on a kdx 200 1989. i broke the puller, stripped the 3 bolts holding the puller in place, tried a bearing puller, broke that aswell! Tried some pennetrating...

Hi, sometimes you have to put tension on the puller, then give the end a few taps with a soft hammer, be careful not to damage the crank thread, otherwise you may have to heat the centre of the rotor, also, when you take the rotor bolt out, is there a larger thread on the inside of the hole in the rotor, this is where the puller goes on a lot of bikes, but has to be a specific bike puller, hope this helps :)

Cick starter keeps breaking clutch cover and inner case on my 1999 kdx 200,what is causing this to happen?

I did an internet search to see if this was a common problem for the KDX but couldn't find anything. You might try going to the "Thumper Talk" website ( You might find someone who has specific knowledge your particular bike and this repair.

I had a similar problem with my Harley, it turned out the kicker gears were worn out. Pull the clutch cover and carefully inspect the kicker gears. If there are any unusual wear patterns replace both of them along with the cracked clutch cover. If you don't already have a repair manual specifically for this bike get one now. It will make repairs much easier.

Good luck!
