2006 Honda XR 250 hard to start when cold

Valve adjustment and timing likely targets here. Had a 250 L with same symptoms, found timing/valves the cause.

Hi! I've got a honda xr 250 '96, recently changed battery (a month ago) and now doesn't want to start up. Electrics work, but after a few tries they fade out. After a while (being off), they work again,...

Sounds like you may have been given a dud battery. If all you have done is change the battery and it was working OK before this, then this is most likely the problem. I'd take the battery back and get them to check it.Good Luck

Exhaust manifold becomes red hot when revving up engine

Hi there, yes this is normal. Not the best thing to be doing to the bike. It will heat up fast when there is no airflow over the manifold or motor. You must be holding it at revs for an extended period for this to happen. Can I ask you why you are doing that...It is a trick to show off perhaps.....but thats all. If you need to do this sort of thing, to resolve a problem or other, it is always a good idea to have a fan moving air past the engine to cool it, or it will heat up fast, and eventually overheat. The motor is designed to be moving for cooling when throttle is on, not stationary.

Wheres the battery???

Hi ..... Do you have an ignition switch ? I'm sure all the early XR's didn't have a battery or ignition switch .............. just kick and go. Fitted with an ignition pack, you kick and it generates sparks. In the UK if you used one on the road insurance wouldn't cover you for Theft as they were too easy to steal.
Let me know how you get on.
