How to fix no brake light issue on 1999 Expedition

I have no brake lights on my 1999 Ford Expedition. I have replaced the bulbs and changed the brake switch. I can't see any wires at the harness broken, or under the dash behind the brake switch. Is there any thing else I can check?

Have you tried wiggling the hazard light switch? The brake light switch puts 12 volts to the hazard/turn signal switch, and the switch will apply this to both taillights. If you turn on the left or right turn signal,it will only route 12 volts to the other light. If you turn on the hazard lights,it will only allow the 3rd brake to come on due to the brake switch.Often.the hazard light/brake light contacts get corroded due to not being turned on and off regularly.Have someone watch the taillights(or use a mirror) to see if they come on when you wiggle the hazard switch. If it does, turn the hazard light switch on and of repeatedly to clean the contacts.

How do I change the brake lights

If the rear light assy's don't have external screws, you have to remove the rear inner panels by the lights. They should have a wing nut screw for easy removal, then twist out the light socket and replace the bulbs, be careful not to touch the bulbs with your fingers, they will burn out fast, the acid affects the glass on the bulbs, also, use plenty of bulb grease to protect the bulb and the socket from corrsion and moisture, water.

Accessing the rear hatch brake light on a 1999 Ford Expedition

There should be 2 screws holding the lenses on for the hatch light, remove those and cover comes off. The plate lights, access them under the rear bumper, they twist and pull out, then just pull the bulb out the connector. The running board light, under board, which will take the light assembly out, or a small flat head screwdriver, pop the lens off the top of board.

Brake lights not working but third brake light works?

Check your fuse for the brakes, if fuse is blown replace. If not fuse go buy a package of brake light bulbs at the auto store. Then replace the bulbs.

Hope this helps
