You first adjust the free play at the engine. You want 1/8 - 1/4" free play, then at the handle bars you want about 1/4" free play there. If you are talking about the internal clutch rod and adjuster bolt, you want to turn the screw in until there is zero lash then back it out 1/4 turn and lock it down.

The site below has a factory service manual available for FREE download. There are over 1000 manuals available and yours is there. I have downloaded your service manual and 20 or so others. The site is easy to use and requires no information from you; no membership, email address, age, *** or anything else. Also, go to the Babbitts site and you can see an exploded view of the entire engine. A picture paints a thousand words and I am too tired to keystroke a thousand words. Please rate my answer. Fuel diagram ...where hoses go ...for a 1978 gs 1000..suzuki

4 small tubes from the bottom of the float bowls, are drain hoses and should be routed between the rear of the engine and the frame.
the 4 small upper hoses are vapor relief hoses and should be routed under the airbox.
The final larger hose or hoses depending on tank are fuel inlet hoses and will connect to the fuel petcock on the Gas Tank
