I lost third gear. it's like it is in neutral when i shift fron second to third. 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th & reverse all work fine & engage without any noise. There is no noise's when I shift into third, it just won't engage. how serious is this?

Probably issues with Shift Solenoids. You need a transmission specialist or an auto electrician with a pro grade bi-directional scan tool computer that can tell the solenoids to operate and confirm that they did. Or it is the powertrain module that is at fault.
sounds like a stretched gear shift cable or the linkage on the tranny may need some adjusting i would start with the linkage first jack vehicle up and do a visual while some one goes through the gears make sure to use jack stands so that the power wheels are off the ground.....good luck
TPS SENSOR. IT CONTROLS SHIFTING AT THE RIGHT TIME AND COULD ALSO CAUSE ALL OF THE SYNMTHOMS THAT YOU HAVE LISTED SOMETIMES WITH OUT GIVING YOU A CODE GOOD LUCK
I have a 92 Crown Vic first and second works fine reverse works fine when it shifts in the third gear it goes to slipping and overdraft can you help me fix this problem thank you
Sounds like one of the levers inside the transmission is either broken or otherwise disengaged. Remove the shifter to see if you can see any obvious reason.
