Sound like a problem with the fuel sending unit, this device generally is attached at fuel pump module.

SOURCE: Fuel gage

They get gumed up(more so if they have sat for awhile) other than pulling them out of the tank. the easyest thing to do is add some antiguming fuel additive to your gas. it takes some time. It will losen them up.

SOURCE: fuel gage goes to zero and then to full while driving

Sounds like the sending unit is bad, which is in the gas tank.

SOURCE: The fuel gauge doesn't read right, makin' low fuel light flash

if the fuel pump is all in-tank; the sending unit built in to the fuel pump is most likely malfunctioning; if so, this will require removal and replacement of the entire fuel pump, sometimes expensive, others not so much

SOURCE: 2001 Yukon XL fuel gage showing inacurate reading

Check for moiosture or corrosion around the tank sender unit connections- if all ok there, you may need a new fuel sender unit.

SOURCE: gmc jimmy 1999, fuel gauge reading empty, even

the sending unit inside the tank has a open circuit that will not complete the signal to the dash gage. The tank will have to be dropped to replace this. The fuel pump is also a part of the sending unit. The part is not very cheap neither

2003 HUMMER H2 FUEL GAGE READS EMPTY ONLY

You replaced the fuel gauge stepper motor two times ? Did you do it correctly ?

Fuel Gage
The IPC displays the fuel level as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gage defaults to empty if:
• The PCM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.
When the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value, the low fuel indicator illuminates.
Reviewing the fuel system description will further explain how the system functions. Refer to Fuel System Description .

Did you try replacing the fuel level sensor ? Check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes ?

Fuel gage showing half a tank but trip computer only registering 60 miles left

Its very simple. If the gauge is showing half full then fill the tank and see how much fuel it takes. If the amount you add is approximately 50 percent of the fuel tank capacity then you know the fuel gauge is accurate . In that case the computer is giving an inaccurate reading and should be ignored. All you need is an accurate fuel gauge - it does not matter a row of beans what the computer says if the fuel gauge is reading correctly.

Fuel gage always reads as full in 89 chevy camero rs. at first it would read semi accurately until it hit 1/4 tank then over a period of approx. 4 weeks it read accurately a smaller portion of the time....

It's very possible that the fuel sending unit inside the tank has failed. It has the classic symptoms of working erratically for a while then reading full or beyond full as the sender finally stops working. Hope this helps and good luck!

Fuel guage not working

Testing the fuel gage requires accessing the harness from the fuel pump and grounding the yellow / white wire with 160 ohms resistance this should cause the gage to read full, and with the circuit open you should have the gage reading empty. If the gage works in this order then the likely failure is the sending unit in the tank , and will require replacement.

Gas gage constantly says full when it's not!

Unfortunately this is most likely the fuel pump module, which includes the fuel level sensor also. This should be diagnosed more thoroughly with a scanner, a good scanner will be able to check instrument cluster separately to confirm the gage is working right, and check for trouble codes that may not light any warning lamps. Hope this helps. Rate me please.P.S. Dont use that fuel station any more.
