94 Chevy K3500 charge system light comes on, Batt now dead

I have a 94 chevy K3500, last night the charge system light came on when engine rev'd up to driving speeds, extingished when i stopped, the gauge read good and plenty of power to start. today i went to start it and the batt is now completely dead, so dead it would not jump intially. after charging a few minutes it was able to be jumped. now the charge system light does not come on at all, not even with turning the ignition key to RUN prior to starting. do you have any ideas what the problem may be?

Could be a problem inside the alternator
you might want to have it bench tested at a store

Anything is possible, like a problem with the ignition switch.

Cejck the primary and secondary resistance of your coil - you may also want to check the voltage drop of your battery when your starter soleniod is engaged as well. If the tarter soleniod is starting to go it will pull too much current.

SOURCE: 98' Cav.. Drove it to

this sound to me like at first I thought it was a fuse, as the problem went on it shifted more toward a weak cell in the battery, if a weak cell sits for a little while the battery will not hold the charge in that cell and that will cause loss of power, "its charge", in tne other cells. you had mentioned you used another battery and it ran great but when the battery was removed, things went wrong. You may check to see if there is water in your battery

98 chevy malibu my alt isnt charging new alt batt test good cut out the fuselink on starter the alt wire runs thru firewall If i run a wire straight to the batt it is putting out 19v any suggestions

Did you check the fuse in the under hood fuse box ? GEN / BATT fuse 10amp . Is your check engine light on ? This is a computer controlled charging system , it should have four wires connected to the alternator . 1 - the heavier wire on the back ,this comes fro the starter - the one with fusible link , you could have checked for battery voltage with voltmeter ! The three other wires in the connector are the orange one ,this comes from the GEN / BATT fuse an should have battery voltage ! The last two come from the PCM - engine computer . The gray wire is the turn on signal from the PCM an the Red wire is the control from PCM ! Charging System Wiring Diagram MOTOR Magazine Article MOTOR Information Systems

try unhooking the power wire off the back of altenator it may charge but if a diode is stuck it will drain your battery if this is the problem the altenator will still charge but will drain your battery over night

Drove to work this morning in my 2006 Chevy Cobalt LS with no problems. Listened to the radio without starting the car for 15 minutes while I fiddled with my blackberry - at one point, the radio led went...

Sounds like your battery is dead. Most batteries last about two to three years. I suspect maybe yours has a couple of dead cells. You will need a hydrometer a device we use to test each cell. When you pick one up at the parts store pry open the caps off of the top of the battery. Next squeeze and hold the bulb on the hydrometer and stick the meter into each opening in the battery and release and make a notation of where the little ball in the meter is located. This will tell you that you have one or more cells dead and the battery will need replacing. Good Luck.

Light switch assembly, I would start there. They do fail, and can fail like yours has.

Dash lights

Check engine and battery light are supposed to be off when the engine is running, that indicates the vehicle has no codes, and that the charging system and battery are ok.When you turn the key to run,but not start, they should light up for a couple of seconds, just to indicate that they are capable of functioning.
