I am having the same problem with the two Bose radios in my house. They both occurred immediately following a short power outage. We have had many other power outages and this did not occur.I am having the same problem with the two Bose radios in my house. They both occurred immediately following a short power outage. The display dims automatically to medium or low brightness, as appropriate for low light room conditions. You can adjust the brightness setting of the display for both strong light and lowest light environments, but not for the medium light setting. Turn the system off before setting brightness levels.
• In a strongly lit room, hold down CD Mode and press Volume up or down to adjust the setting between 5 and 9 (it is preset to 8). • In a barely lit room, hold down CD Mode and press Volume up or down to adjust the setting between 1 and 5 (it is preset to 2). • If you do not want the system to dim automatically, set both levels to 5.

Yes you have a defective laser assembly. The 139 is a great price as buying the laser lens alone will cost you around 70 .Bose will also upgrade with any new software and will also provide you with a 1 yr warrenty.
Amplifier chip/circuit is kaput. Unless you are familiar in fixing electronic equipments better to give it for repairs................sodeep PS. Buying a new one will not be cost effetive unless you need a change!
I found the answer on the Bose website in the manual for the radio. While the radio is on, hold down Alarm Setup and preset 1 at the same time. That will set it so the clock displays. If you do the same thing but hold down preset button 2, that will display the radio info all the time.
Unfortunately Bose will not release their schematics or parts lists,
effectively giving them a monopoly on repairs. Their web site,
www.bose.com, offers to repair most Wave radios for $100 or to give
owners of broken sets a $200 allowance towards the purchase of a new
Wave. Before spending the big bucks though, you might want to check
out the new HD radios. Better sound and a MUCH lower price.
Hi I read that if you hold down the Clock Set button and use the volume adjust you can change the display brightness. Hope this helps with your rpoblem
