Question about 1985 Honda XR 250 R

3 Answers

CBR 600 F3 1996, stored for 4 years

I'm about to buy a CBR 600, in very good chape, with only 18.000 kms.
The problem is that the bike has kept in a farm warehouse for 4 years. The worst thing is that somebody took the spark plug from one cylinder (4th Cyl,) and left the wole without any protection at all.
As the engine does not work for long, I'll change all the fluids and lubricants, but I' m realy concerned about the posisble damages in that cilynder - humidity, dirt, etc.
What you recomend to do? To put WD40 immediately is a good idea?
Thank you,
Francisco Azevedo

The honda cbr will only run on the 3 cylinders, if u try to put a spark plug in the last cylinder u will find that there are no treads for it but the wires will stick in the whole and does create a spark on a plug if one is put on, the fourth cylinder is there to balance the weight distribution

Put a teaspoon of eucalyptus oil in the cylinder and turn it over and listen where the spark plug goes in the head. if u hear a grinding noise stop and rebuild the cylinder. if there is no noise out of the ordinary it should be fine to run..

It might be a good idea to flush everything out with clean oil. And maybe clean the oil filter. And clean the crankcase and stuff.

Check fuse- check operation of fan by unplugging and manually applying 12 volts- does it spin?. IS the bike heating up?.. some bikes will not kick in the fan unless the bikes getting very hot. Also check output of the temperature switch- does it change state from open to grounded or open to short

Put a new battery in my 96 cbr 600 last month its been fine .. yesterday did a few wheelies n the key came out finally wen i stoped the bike died n battery was dead ... could it b a stator or rectifier ?...

chare the battery back up and get a volt meter, the battery should read 12v or a little higher, when you start the bike the voltage should rise to around 14v, if it doesnt rise it is not charging and the reg or stator needs checking

This is srikanth, say weather to buy cbr 250 of 2011series.say about benefits and defects about it,plz help me out.

It is a solid motorcycle. The engine will last for years to come. It is not a bike for cross country touring on the highways. It is pretty good on gas and makes a really good commuter bike in the city. It is a fast bike with fuel injection and double Over Head Cams. Bottom line is that it is well engineered. The really good thing is that the 2011 bike is a single cylinder engine. The earlier engines had 4 cylinders and were extremely costly to repair. The single cylinder is low maintenance and easier to service. There are 2 models of the CBR250 > CBR 250R and the CBR 250ABS. I would recommend the CBR 250R unless you want to spend another $500 for anti-lock brakes. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

Front brake calipers have had it on my brothers bike, buying all the seals and bits works out nearlythe same as just gettin a different set? will a different year fit?or does it have to be 600 fn 1992????

Having just changed the seals on my old suzuki, I know what you mean about cost. However, any secondhand set may be in just as bad condition, so make sure you get a good look at them (ask me how I know!).
For caliper/bike details try www.cmsnl.com
They should cover the CBR series and have great parts diagrams. Just get the part number for the current brakes, then compare with the later models listed.
