SOURCE: i have replaced fork seals

Hi,
I am assuming the old oil is drained.
Once the tops are opened, lift the bike onto the center stand which will make the forks extend. Refill through the top of the fork with 12 oz of fork oil. The manual states that you must use oil with a weight of approximately SAE 3, and the amount going in needs to be equal in each fork.
Hope this helps

On the top and bottom parts of the triple tree either both or one will have bolts. First take the fender off. Take the front tire off. Loosen the bolts on the triple tree. They should slide down. If not you have to get a rubber mallet and tap on the top of the fork and twist the fork as you are doing this. Once it is out, pull the dust seal off the top of the lower fork. There will be a clip inside, take the clip off drain the oil out of the top or bottom depending on how the forks are made. Push the fork tube down into the lower fork slightly, pull both apart with a firm tug and they should separate.

How mutch fork oil do i put in the forks on my 1991 yamaha DTR 125

Use graduated measuring bowls and remember RELAESE pressure first before doing thisl...then crack open the drain scews and messure amount..this will ball park it. use 10 weight oil to replace. dont put more that a couple pounds of air backin the shocks they dont need nuch more then 4-6 psi. if you us ea gas station to inflate only squirk for as second then measure you might blow the seals..remeber very little air.

How do i get the oil fork seal out of my yamaha xt600

remove each fork leg from the bike, remove the dust cap from over the fork ctaunchion, you should see a retaining circlip inside the fork staunchion, remove this(and dont lose it),to remove the seal you can do it two ways,1 drill a small hole on either side of the seal(through the seal) thread in a self tapping screw and the seal will come out,or 2,stab a screwdriver through the seal on each side and lever it out, when you go to put the new seal in put a smear of grease around the seal first this makes it a lot easier to reinstall and will minimise any damage to the new seal, reinstall the circplip, then dust cover and put fork back into bike, this all sounds complicated but is actually quite simple to do ,should take about 2hrs from start to finish, hope this helps
