1987 saab 9000 turbo transmission

Transmission was shifting fine. New clutch kit, rebuilt slave and new clutch master cylinder. Clutch sounded/felt like slippage when turbo boosted high. driving yesterday and trans, was shifting smoothly until I went for top 5th gear and the no engagement. Checked C/V axle, shift linkage and all was fine. reached into the bell Housing and moved the slave away from the Clutch plate to see if fluid was returning to master cylinder and still no engagement. I can reach down and shift the linkage by hand and all seems to engage into each gear. trans just won't engage wheel drive. Ring gear work as I turn the tires. can the clutch disc separate from it's spline hub? There was absolutely no noise when transmission stop engaging.

All the gears feel like they engage, just no drive at the wheels

Thanks, Adam. I had come to several thought and a spun clutch disc is the only thing I can think of. Will not know for sure until the transmission is out. Hydraulic system check out fine. Pressure plate, clutch disc and clutch master and slave are new.

Bad pressure plate or stuck throw out bearing.

  • Adam Scott Roberts Jun 09, 2012

have pulled transmissions where people have installed the clutch disc backwards and it wears out rather quickly. also check the step on the flywheel to make sure it isn't worn so badly that the clutch can't contact the flywheel.

SOURCE: NV3500 Problems shifting. 1998 s10.

It sounds as though either the throw out bearing or pressure plate are bad. The grinding makes me want to lean towards the pressure plate.

syncro is a little round instead of square liped

1 too many grinders usually requires a rebuild of the trans or go to auto recyclers and get a new used trans

I just finished putting on a new gear box and clutch kit for and when i started it and put it on gear it was so low and soft and a loud noise after that... I just want to know why did it do that pls?

So you installed a new transmission and a whole new clutch kit? Did the kit include the pressure plate, clutch, throw out bearing and slave cylinder? Did you bleed the slave cylinder? The low and soft pedal is a clear sign that there is air in the hydraulic system. The loud noise after that tells me you're either grinding the gear trying to shift or there is a problem inside the transmission itself. If you installed everything correctly and torqued all the bolts correctly in the clutch assembly and transmission, then try bleeding the slave cylinder again, sometimes air gets trapped in the cylinder and it's hard to get out, If you let the clutch master cylinder run dry while you either had the clutch apart or while you were bleeding the clutch, then you have to start from scratch and re-bleed the whole system.

Transmission problems

sounds like you still have a hydraulic problem with the master or slave cylinder air getting in the system or perhaps the clutch pressure plate is packing up

I have a 2000 mazda 323 with a manual transmission. i have already change the clutch kit but the gear is still hard to shift

Check the hydraulic clutch operation. This is a clutch master cylinder with a reservoir on the firewall, and a clutch slave cylinder down on the bell housing of the transmission, with a steel tube running from the master to the slave cylinder. When clutch pedal is depressed, hydraulic fluid (brake fluid) is forced from the master to the slave. The slave cylinder should push out a little plunger that contacts the clutch fork lever-pushing it forward to engage the clutch.
Add brake fluid to the reservoir if needed. Watch the plunger on the slave cylinder: if it moves little, or not enough, try bleeding the slave from the bleeder valve. They are bled just like brakes. If bleeding doesn't help, your clutch master or the slave may need replacing. The master cylinder, like a brake master, has internal seals that hold hydraulic pressure, so force can be applied to the plunger on the slave cylinder.

My car sat for about 5 months in the yard. Clutch and transmission are new rebuilt. Went to move the car clutch went to the floor and stayed there. What can I do?

Sounds like you either need to bleed the clutch slave cylinder, or you need to rebuild or replace the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. You might want to check with the shop that replaced the clutch and rebuilt the transmission. It may be covered under their warrantee.

My 1991 manual transmission toyota camry won't disengage completely. Same thing happened about a month ago one day and then seemed OK for about 500 miles or so and now is doing the same thing only this...

Clutch pressure plate might be coming apart but be sure to check the clutch pedal pivot and mounts. I've seen firewalls break and cause this problem.

1991 jeep wrangler not shifting into gear could this be clutch

I would first bleed the tranny lines, if that doesnt work then your tranny is out and need to get it replaced. FYI with Jeep Wranglers, It is better to get a new transmission then to rebuild them
