What why dose arrow on piton go on a ms 170 to front or rear

The 'Arrow' on the piston always points in the direction of air flow through the cylinder. So it should be pointing towards the exhaust port. :)

I want to know which way the piston and ring goes on a 2065 johnsonred chainsaw

The piston crown will have an arrow on it if you clean the carbon off, the arrow always goes towards the exhaust port which puts the ring peg at the inlet.

Do the arrows on the top of the pistons on a 1993 Harley face the exhaust ?

No, the arrows face towards the front of the engine. This is because the combustion chamber has a flat "squish area" instead of the older hemispherical design of earlier years. On the earlier Shovelheads and Ironhead Sportsters, you had to look for the ridge on the piston pin boss on the underside or the eyebrow for the intake valve. Not so on the Evolution engines. ARROWS GO TOWARD THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE.

I have an etco chainsaw that will only start on the choke and stops almost immediately. The carb has been cleaned and a new diaphram fitted. A new fuel filter has also been fitted and spark plug. The spark...

Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
- aluminum or silver - piston/cylinder scored
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Compression - 125 to 150 psi

3) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated

Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
ChainSaws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks

*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

Please double check the gasekts/diaphragms for proper installation

Husqvarna 141 piston ring, what is the required gap for the ring? Also, does it matter which way the piston is positioned in the cylinder, there is no arrow or difference that I can tell by looking at it.

It's been a few years but I've installed piston rings in many small engines. Many rings are beveled or rounded on the top outside to prevent excessive cylinder wear or scaring the cylinder wall. The bevel should be very slight and very hard so see. Some may have a small dot or marking cast into the ring near the end/split. If that is the case the ring should be installed with the marking turned toward the cylinderhead. Hint, lube the piston, rings, and cylinderwall before installing the piston. Gene
