Should my orange wire connected to coil post be hot coming out of the cdi? And on the kill switch I have 3 contacts. One contact has a wire black with white stripe and one contact has a black wire and the third contact has no wire. With the kill switch in the off position the two wires have contact and in the on position the black wire would be connected to a bare contact. This is a 91 yamaha breeze 125cc.Is this correct?

It sounds to me like the repair shop has connected the ignition wire ( the wire going to the + side of the coil ) to the wrong switch terminal. Take a volt ohm meter and connect the ground wire to the negitive ( - ) side of the battery and expose the ignition switch terminals. With the switch in the OFF position check for volatge on all the terminals. Make note of any terminals showing a 12 volt reading. That is probably the feed line from your battery. Turn the switch to the ON or RUN position and check for a terminal other than the one which gave you a reading before. note and mark this terminal. Locate the coil. There are 2 thin ( 18 guage ) wires attached to the coil. One goes to the distributer and the other goes to the ignition switch. Isolate that wire and reattach it to the connection on the ignition switch you marked earlier...

A 2004 bear tracker and rebuilt carb. I used my lawnmower battery to crank the engine and while running, the CDI box began to smoke. with battery dissconnected, the CDI box continued to smoke. why?

Hi, Donald you may have fried your CDI box and it needs to be tested and or replaced for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Jake, if your ignition is electronic, you may not have enough system voltage to run the starter and the ignition at the same time.
Try with a jump from another vehicle. Likely it will start.
Try bringing the battery to a full and complete charge, water up first,
then retest starting. Some units just have to have a perfect battery and state of charge.

Does cdi affect ignition in pulsar 150

yes the cdi is most importing.the starter coil supply electricity to cdi then cdi forward electricity to high tension coil, and high tension coil forward the electricity to spark plug, spark plug give more fire to piston.cdi not only supply only electricity, cdi adjust the electricity and control the power.ok?

I have a 2010 Oliver City CPI, motor scooter. The engine wont start. The starter seems to work and theres gas in it. Tried the kickstarter and wont start. bad spark plug maybe?

My problem started like this,I found No spark so changed coil, cdi, voltage reg, eventualy found stator at fault, check pick up strip on flywheel and pick up pin on black pick up coil, this is fixed to stator and sends spark signal to cdi, mine were both rusty/dirty,I fitted a new stator, but now have light problems..stator seems to be to strong.

I am not expereinced with bikes, however when it comes to electrical/spark, I have always been able to find the issue, as there are only a few things that it can be. You have your power source (battery), your ground, and your source (any units/components powered by the battery). There aren't many things in between any of these that could be the issue.
Also, check the wiring harness to the distributor. Make sure it is plugged in all the way (if it "plugs in"), if it's hard wired, the opposite end should have a connection. Check that as well. Make sure you have no wires bare, or touching the frame or other part of the bike, as this could be causing it to short out, which will limit or prevent spark.

Hi i have a dinli 100cc quad bike .the quad will nt start and there is no ignition i have checked the spark plug so can you help me if you can i will be very happy

I assume that is a 100cc, 2 stroke ATV? If the starter motor is spinning, and you just don't have any spark. First, replace the spark plug. If that doesn't fix it, then you may have one of the following problems: Bad CDI, Kill Switch or Rip Cord Shut off switch, Frayed wire shorting out, cracked/damaged spark plug cap, bad coil or coil wire, bad stator. My bet is on the kill switch and/or Lanyard/Rip Cord shut off switch or the CDI. You can bypass your shutoff switches to see if they are the problem by either disconnecting the wires or connecting them together(depending on the type of system you have). CDI's routinely fail on small engines and generally cost about $20-$70, depending on the style. www.solanocycle.com

Not gettig spark on honda cbr 600 1994

iF YOU ARE NOT GETTING A SPARK ON ANY CYLINDER THEN
1 CHECK FOR POWER TO COILS WITH A METER
IF NONE THEN SUSPECT :- THE IGNITION FUSE - VISUALLY CHECK THE WIRING - A BAD CONNECTION IN THE IGNITION CIRCUIT - THE KILL OR SIDESTAND OR CLUTCH SWITCH, OR EVEN THE IGNITION SWITCH.
2 IF THERE IS POWER THEN SUSPECT THE PICK-UP (PULSAR) COILS & WIRING FROM THERE TO THE CDI - & LASTLY BY A PROCESS OF ELIMINATION SUSPECT THE CDI (ITS GENERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CHECK THE CDI APART FROM VISUALLY & BY REPLACEMENT)

I HOPE THIS HELPS, IF SO PLEASE MARK AS USEFUL

No spark, changed the coil, is there any way to test the cdi box without having to buy a new one.

There is a way to test a CDI box but you will have to take it to a shop that has the equipment to do this. I own a motorcycle/Atv repair shop and I don't own one cause they cost allot and I can't justify getting one.

1986 gsxr 400.not sparking r starting

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If somehow, the CDI could be opened up, then component level repair maybe tried. There would be 2 final transistors that actually do the switching; 1 for each coil. Offhand, it would appear that 1 of those 2 is faulty. Otherwise, replacement is the only option.

Incidentally, in some versions, a fault in the tachometer could also cause one of the CDI's output to fail.

Postback results of tests.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

No spark

I turn on the Ign and light comes on- crank the starter and it spins with plenty of powerbut wont start. Took the plug out and earthed it to the enginewhile cranking, but no spark. Put in new plug and the same result. So whats the next step to find the trouble. Thanks Gerry,Time to start trouble-shooting the ignition system. With a multi tester and a service manual, you can test the coil, or have a shop do it, same with the CDI unit. But you can look for broken wires/bad connections in the pick-up wires and any wires leading to/from the CDI.,,,
