I turn the key on i would normally hear some clicking and self testing. but when i hit the starter button i lose all power to the bike. sometimes it comes back on when i cycle the key. but then lose it again when i try hitting the starfter again. i checked voltage on the battery and it fine at 12.56 volts. checked for lose conections and couldnt see any. sounds like its shorting out to me, but not sure where to look.
Sounds like cables are not making a good contact. Take the cables off the battery and clean them and the posts. If that doesn't fix it check the cables at the other ends at the starter and ground. Make sure you take them off and clean them good cause they can be tight and still not make a connection.

Sounds like the starter bendix is not engaging the flywheel every time. This will have that whirring sound as the teeth are just outside the flywheel gears.
The starter may test fine but if it is out of alignment just slightly the gears may not be engaging the flywheel. The random whirring may not have happened at the shop. (Thing works fine when you take it to be repaired) :)
Usually adjusting with small washers or shims will often remedy this. But you have to be careful = small changes only!
Check the flywheel and starter bendix FIRST to make sure there are no broken/worn gears.
Hopefully your not hearing that whirring noise then a metal to metal grinding noise. That would be bad.
Good luck!

not a throttle valve, but the float needle valve that shuts the fuel off with the float. the only cure for the sticking floay valve is to remove the carb and clean it.
SOURCE: i replaced the starter relay
When you push the start button and the relay clicks the lead from the relay to the starter should have 12volts. If it doesnt you either the relay is bad or the cable(lead) is bad from the relay to the starter.Hope this helps.
