My son had two keys and lost them both for his 93 tempo, what and where should i start?
It may be too late, but the cheapest solution is for you to order the key from Rush Locks and Keys. They will sell you the key much much cheaper than the locksmith and the dealership. Then you can take the key to a locksmith or dealer to have it cut. It will save you tons. The actual key blank is what both parties upcharge extremely. Hope this helps.
Hi. Had a similar problem when I bought a car. Guy selling it had no keys. He already changed the ignition cylinder with one from local parts store (he drilled out the old one. It seemed to work, but I don't know if its the right way). I still didn't have the keys to the door. I removed the lock cylinder from the door and took it to a locksmith. He made a key for about $25. On some cars, the door and ignition are the same key, so this may have worked to get me an ignition switch. I still need to take out the trunk cylinder to get a key (its different than the door). I hope the electric switch keeps working. I know this is late, but thought I would post it.
The best thing you can do is to probably make him work a few odd jobs to start paying you back for the $75 it's probably going to cost to have a locksmith come out to re-key the ignition cylinder. Without the original key, you can't even remove the old ignition cylinder to replace it with an aftermarket one, so a locksmith is probably the best way to go. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's about all you can do at this point, shy of replacing the entire steering column, or trying to break the existing cylinder so that you can replace it with a new one. Hope this has proven useful. Try to have yourself a nice evening!
Oh yeah...don't be too hard on him. I lost the keys to my '85 Nissan 300ZX Turbo 3 times before I finally learned my lesson. Kids will be kids...but I'd still make him pay for it...lol.

I have lost the keys to my '94 Ford Taurus. Can a Ford dealership help me out or is a locksmith my only hope? Which is more expensive?
