1986 Honda CB 700 SC Nighthawk replace the ignition switch

Took out the ignition switch and broke black plastic piece on the bottom. how do I fix it? @

Is it leaking when you have it sittin strait up and down and running? If it leaking when it is not running then I would say you have a sticking fuel float.

Black exhaust is from too much fuel. You may have a carburator float sticking. That will cause excess fuel to go into the cylinder, and if it can't "compress" it, it will knock.

If yuou have the time money and expertise you can put any type of engine in your bike ,its just a matter of how far you wish to go. You must make sure that if you are thiking of changing you existing engine .And replacing with another make or cc That you have the space for a replacement .Also will the engine bolts line up with existing frame mounts .You may have to have engine plates made .and will the drive line up from engine to rear wheel .Its not as simple as people think .And if you ever want to sell it what will be its appeal to a buyer .?

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Tamper-proof Torx driver
  • Ignition key
Instructions
    • 1 Remove the plastic cover from the steering column. The cover is two pieces held together by screws that thread through the bottom piece of plastic into the top piece. Remove the screws and pull the cover off. This exposes the large square ignition switch. The key cylinder connects to the ignition switch.
    • 2 Remove the tamper-proof Torx screws that secure the ignition to the steering column using a tamper-proof Torx driver. You can get this type of Torx driver from your local auto part store.
    • 3 Pull the wiring harness out of the ignition switch.
    • 4 Place the ignition key into the cylinder and turn it onto the auxiliary position. Push the metal pin on the ignition switch in using a screwdriver and slide the ignition cylinder half way out of the ignition switch. Turn the key to the off position and slide the cylinder all the way out of the ignition switch.
    • 5 Place the key into the new cylinder, slide the cylinder into the ignition switch half way. Turn the key to the auxiliary position and slide the cylinder in the rest of the way. Remove the key from the cylinder.
    • 6 Press the wiring harness onto the ignition switch.
    • 7 Secure the switch to the steering column using the tamper-proof Torx driver.
    • 8 Place the covers back onto the steering column and secure them using the screwdriver.

Looking for plastic piece back flap of 2003 beetle automatic convertible


beetles always have something breaking, the junkyards have a lot of them, you should be able to find a whole complete top for a decent price and go after the "reputable" shop to reimburse you.
if you want to just get the plastic part that is possible too from the junkyard, what i do with my beetle is look at the junkyard car so i know how to put it together once i get the part home.

I had the same issue with Out of Service 21. The pump was making noise during Self-test, then the error. I took the entire thing apart. I removed the pump, cleaned all the plastic/rubber parts, and reassembled. All seems to work now. The final piece that I cleaned was a tiny black washer inside the bottom portion of the plastic assembly that inserts into the pump solenoid. In the bottom of that piece (about 1/2 threaded) you'll see a star-shaped piece of plastic threaded INSIDE the barrel. I turned that out, cleaned the tiny black washer that blocks the hole, cleaned the spring, and turned the star piece back in. That seems to be what fixed it for me. However, error 21 in the manual indicates ANY issue with water flow.

Replace ignition switch


REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVERING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL. YOU PROBABLY WON'T HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHEEL. THERE SHOULD BE SCREWS ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE PLASTIC PIECES . THE SCREWS THAT HOLD THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER IN PLACE MAY HAVE SECURITY HEADS, [ROUND , NO SLOTS OR HEXES] YOU WILL NEED A SMALL CHISEL & A SMALL HAMMER TO START THEM TURNING.

IF YOU ONLY WANT TO REPLACE THE ELECTRICAL PART, " THE BLACK PLASTIC WITH THE WIRES " ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS REMOVE THE SINGLE SCREW FROM THE OPPOSITE END WHERE THE KEYS GO & PULL OUT THE PLASTIC SWITCH.

There is a plastic piece that goes between key switch and ignition switch that might be broke have the same issue and trying to find out how to replace this piece.

the ignition switch is located under the dash at the bottom of the steering column.suspect a fault in the linkage connecting tumbler to switch.

I need to rewind the spring and starter pull cord. I need to understand how all the parts fit together


I had the same problem. I had to take it apart and rewind it manually. To do this:
Step 1:
There are 4-bolts to remove on the orange plastic section the screw into the motor housing (one of them is hidden inside the orange plastic housing, you'll see an opening for it). There are also 3 screws in the black plastic exhaust housing that screw into the orange plastic housing, find those and remove.

Step 2:
Carefully remove the engine from the plastic housing. I didn't disconnect the throttle cable or the electric wires (points) just kind of worked around them.

Step 3:
The mechanism is kind of crappy. There are two black pieces with a spring in the middle, and a metal disc on the bottom with a ribbon coil on the underside of it. The top plastic piece is what turns the flywheel when you pull the cord. The spring in between connects the two plastic piece. This is probably what popped out. There is a piece sticking up on one end, which inserts into the hole in the top black plastic piece. If you remove the little guardrail things you can probably remove just that piece. KEEP TENSIONS ON THE PULL CORD. Once you remove that top black piece, it should start to recoil.

Step 4:
If it did recoil, put the spring back in the top plastic piece, and then put the plastic/spring combo back into the the bottom plastic piece, there is a little groove for the bottom of the spring to slide into. Then put the little guardrail screws back on. Make sure the big metal wire thing hasn't slipped down into the shaft of the weed whacker. That needs to go back into the motor, as it is what gets spun and in turn spins the strings. As you start to put the motor back in, you may have to pull on the pull cord a few times to get the flywheel and plastic piece to line up. Once you hear the motor start to catch, then you should be able to wiggle it back into place and put back all of the screws. Then give it a shot. If it pulls out again, you may have to drill a new hole into the top black plastic piece for that spring to slide into (this is the crappy design part).

Step 5:
If the pull cord didn't retract, you need to remove the other two pieces (lower black plastic piece and metal disc with ribbon). The metal ribbon has a nub on the outside that hooks onto a plastic piece in the bottom of the orange plastic housing. You'll need to wind it around once or twice to "charge" the ribbon, then wind the string back on the black plastic piece. The black piece should slide into the center of the metal disc and catch the inside of the ribbon. Once you get these two together, again, make sure the metal ribbon piece is wound once past normal and then you have to slide both parts together down into the housing catching the metal ribbon loop over the orange plastic nub. It's tricky, it took me a few tries. Once you get that you can try and test the pull cord, you'll see it pull out and feel it retract due to that metal ribbon. Then go back and do step 4, where you put the upper black plastic piece with spring back into place and replace the little metal guardrails.

This whole thing took a few tries, and the pull cord still gets stuck out. It's a major pain to say the least, but after the 5th time fixing it, you'll be a real pro.
