Question about 1995 Suzuki GSX 1100 GS (non US production)

1 Answer

Knocking sound Ok so I picked up this gixxer a couple weeks ago and the guy told me it had a clutch problem because he would put it in gear and go to take off and it would just shutoff. So I go to pick it up and I load it up and take it home and before I take it down I start it up and it has a nasty "knocking" sound. Now 2 days before I picked it up I had went and had the guy start it for me and it did not make that sound at least I didn't notice it. But anyway I take it to a mechanic here in town and he tells me the bikes toast which I don't belive so I take it to another mechanic who fiddles with it till 2 days ago. And he got it to drive lol the bike didn't have a clutch problem it had a broken kickstand safety switch lol. But nonetheless the bike still has that knocking sound it runs great (previous owner said motor was rebuilt not too long ago byt the owner before him) drives fine but that knocking noise is annoying. So the mechanic did the ol' screwdriver handle to the ear trick and it seems as if the sound is coming from the left side of the bike where the slave cylinder is..... now the prev owner had replaced the slave cylinder a few days before I bought it. We took the slave cylinder off and the front sprocket and that's as far as we got. Now another bit of info is this is my first bike so I know precisely **** about them. The mechanic working on it has never really done much to bikes but I've trusted him with every car I've owned and he works on his own 94 ninja zx9 all the time so my question is. Any idea what it could be?

I have a 1995 suzuki intruder 1400 and it makes a knocking noise also but Im not sure if its the kickstand problem. Im also having a problem with the clutch. I replaced it at the end of last year and it was okay for a while but this season its starting to be a problem. It seems as though every time the bike gets hot it wont go into first gear and it really pisses me off. Someone said it could be the slave cylinder and Im sort of hesitating because of the price and Im not 100% sure if thats the problem. I blead the line but didnt seem to do anything. Anyone have any suggestions?

Does this knocking sound change/subside when you pull in the clutch lever? As the clutch baskets wear or go bad they develop free play between the basket and the drive gear that is riveted to it. Since you don't know ''dick" about bikes i suggest you either pick up a shop manual or go see dick, who hopefully knows more than you! Internet diagnosis can git a bit complex, especially when you don't know your way around the machine! You may get a ton of suggestions but following them thru may be beyond you abilities?

Hi,it sounds from what you are saying that you have got a inturnal falt with the gearbox,im affried the only way to make a propper diagnoses is to take it apart and look at the gear sincros there has to be worn bearings,or teeth on the gears,or the sellector,or something has just manidged to come loose.
I wish you all thhe best.

Clutch knocks and shuts off when put in gear

Your clutch is either out of adjustment or the clutch is fried.

Sounds like the clutch plates may be stuck together. Happened to me after a long trip in the rain and bike sat for a few weeks after that. Had to take the cluch discs out and clean them

I recently bought a 2008 Yamaha yz250f. My first four stroke . The guy said he just put in a new clutch two rides ago. I rode it when I got home. And the clutch slips like crazy. Cable free play is ok....

Hi, Hillclimber7 sounds like the center adjusting screw on your pressure plate is too tight for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. Thanks to 'Double Clutch', more info

If the rear tire is bolted down and torqued properly then the chain should not move the rear tire. Try taking the chain off the bike completly and if you can remove the sprocket cover and run the bike and maybe see what going on. Check the chain links while it is off to see if they move freely.

99 vstar 1100 quits when put in gear

couple of things to look for.

1. when you're putting it in gear, is the kick stand up or down. if down, most modern day bikes have a kick stand safety switch which will not allow you to put the bike in gear with the side stand down. this little relay may have failed. its usually located near the kick stand.

2. clutch disks may be stuck together. it happens on my old bikes from sitting too long (over a winter). when i pop it into first gear after i start it w/ clutch lever pulled, it will buck forward and die. i have to repeat a few times to get them unstuck.

good luck
