Question about 1997 Suzuki RGV 250 SP

1 Answer

Problems 1) I'm getting lots of overflow and smoke from the #2 carb. 2) It bogs down as soon as I give it throttle. 3) I can't get the idle to slow down to spec. I'm absolutely out of ideas... any help would be great.

Overflow is the sign of a float stuck or the fuel inlet valve that the float runs is stuck or has a buggar in it. Black smoke is a sign of a rich mixture, which may also be from a stuck float/fuel inlet valve. Still carb problems, there.

Arctic cat 500 dies when you give it gas but idles fine!

You still have a carb issue, doesnt take much trash to chock it out when giving throttle. if you done the carb clean twice, try seafoam, does pretty good at cleaning the carbon out. use it as directed while running. it will smoke bad while preforming this proceedure so dont panic whens it smokes the neighborhood out.

Engine bogs down when speed is increased.

Ok I have r Royobi Tiller (30CC Gas) And last year it ran fine after rebuilding the Carb. This year it was "hard starts" Idles fine, (Tiny whisps of blue smoke in exhaust with correct ratio) Even seems to run better with the choke "on" but still...at idle only. as soon as I touch the throttle...its bogs down in tune with how much gas I give it. Little throttle? Little bog down, Little more throttle? Almost stalls, a normal throttle rev? it stalls dead! Then starts right back up again in 1 pull and idles fine again!? WTF? So after cleaning a clean carb again, (twice) and seeing no change I thought I'd go look at the original diaphragm and compare it with the rebuild kit diaphragm (which is the one in the carb.) And guess what? The replacement has a larger rivet by a factor of "2". So basically it was flooding the carb, I bent the needle tang down, better but no cigar. But I could rev it half way now. A second disassemble to bend it yet a bit further and Vrooom vroom vrooom ****! So check your needle valve even though you think its 100%. (Especially if you rebuilt the carb with a kit!)

Smoke coming from motor, slows down

ASSUMING ITS A TWO STROKE. MIXTURE HAS TOO MUCH OIL IN IT. TRY DIFFERENT MIXTURE,IT'S BOGGING DOWN BECAUSE NOT IGNITING WITH A HIGH CONTENT OF OIL IN IT ON WIDE OPEN THROTTLE. MAY ALSO NEED CARB ADJUSTED. DO NOT MAKE MIXTURE TOO THIN ON OIT,YOU WILL SEIZE UP ENGINE

Blower wont run at full throttle

Start with the spark plug it is the easiest.

But sounds like the carbourator is dirty, Probably fouled with old gas varnish. When it is idling give it a little throttle, flip the choke on and then full throttle. If it goes full throttle and doesn't conk out, it is a fuel issue.

Good Luck
