2007 XL883 Oil Change

I bought my Sportster this past march with 2200 miles. Now I have about 6400 miles on it and figure it was time for a oil change. Can anyone help me with an how to change the oil. My uncle has an 2007 Softtail but doesn't know if we change the oil the same way. So if someone can help me out here that would be great.

The sportster differs in that there are only 2 holes compared to the 3 on the softail. You drain the main oil via tube at the rear of the engine and the primary/trans with a bolt under the bike make sure you get the correct one as its close to the adjuster for the primary chain. you need 3qts for the motor with a new filter and 1qt for the primary/trans use the forumla+ or Spectro sporty heavy duty primary/trans in the primary and your choice in the motor. whilst your servicing it make sure all the motor mounts are tight and the fuel and oil lines are leak free and get the dielectric grease onto the fuse block and relays and adjust the primary chain

I have a 2002 883 and recently changed oil by drawing it out of the oil tank with a suction pump that looks like a grease gun. I could get way down to the bottom of the reservior. I put in 2 qts 15/50 Mobil one and changed the filter. Took about 7 min. checked oil level, right up there!

2004 fxst motor vibration and noise top end air bubbles on dip stick didn't change oil yet

Hopefully you are not saying you have 27000 miles on the same oil. If so lots of engine parts are likely worn out. nORMAL FOR SOME AIR BUBBLES TO APPEAR ON THE DIPSTICK WHEN HOT. This engine should not have vibration or top end noise.

Change oil km

Any time you want, but most change their oil and filter every 3,000
miles. Many now suggest that this can be extended to 4,000 plus miles.

I have a 2005 Sportster 883, Always used shop to change oil & xmission fluid. Any problem using a standard 20w50 oil and 80w90 xmission fluid and do the work myself?

Hi Ron, I have no trouble with you doing your own oil changes but why would you want to use someone elses oil that was not designed for your Sportster to save a few pennies? If you needed a blood transfusion would you want it from a family member or some stranger? For more information about your question please visit the websites below. Good luck and have nice day.

The sending unit for the oil pressure light is located down at the oil pump. Look under the engine on the right side. The oil pump is located between the engine and the frame.

I have a 2004 xl883 converted to 1200 need to change the fluids. does the transmission and the primary use the motor oil that you are putting in bike or is it differant. and when you drain oil and...

You engine uses three quarts of 20W50 oil. The primary and transmission share the same oil and it uses about a quart of oil. One the late model Big Twins, you can use H-D's Syn 3 in all areas. Not sure about the Sportster. I've always used the H-D primary/transmission lubricant for Sportsters. If you wish to use any other brand of lubricant, you need to go to their website and check to see what they say use in what area. Some of the other popular lubricants are Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil V-Twin, and Red Line.

Good Luck
