Handlebar Limitations For Super Glide

As much as I love my '05 Super Glide, I get frustrated sometimes with its limitations, specifically handlebars. I would love to put some 'mini-apes' on it, but it looks as if I can not. Exactly what handlebars will work on my bike, and please post the part # if you can. I use a Sundowner seat, which allows me to kick back a little bit more, and I need about 2" on the bars to be totally comfortable. Are there bars out there that come back toward the rider a little bit, and how do they look?

Stupid site just deleted my answer. I'll just say 6" pullback risers. Don't get mini apes because you'll have to buy the control cables and lines for an FDWG.

Try aftermarket akin to a De Luxe riser and clamp setup. It'll still cost you.

check out these handlebar risers that are specific for the superglide. they raise the bars 2" back and 1" up, without all the cable changes. a little expensive, but these also maintain the proper instrument alignment angle that other risers don't. i'm getting a set for my 05 superglide.

HD apes (http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444184683 9&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309061627&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309061627&bmUID=1117225755778&bmLocale=en_US) Those what you're looking for? You should be able to make pretty much any bar you want fit as long as you're willing to replace the cables and possibly the risers. According to the website they fit the FXD.

Has the throttle and return cables lately (like ever) been lubed/oiled?

Also, put some grease on the end of the handlebar where the throttle sleeve rides.

Cycle the engine run switch on the right handlebar. If that doesn't cure the problem take that switch housing apart and check for water inside. If that fails check the main battery fuse.

How do i change handlebars on a 2010 Dyna

Unplug the handlebar wires where they connect to the wiring harness. Remove the black electrical connectors at the end of the wires. Pull the wires through the ends of the handlebars. Silicone lubricant sprayed into the bars will make this a bit easier, and you should be able to leave the silver pins on the ends of the wires, saving yourself some work when installing your new bars. Leave the wires connected at the handlebar controls when doing this. Just unscrew the controls from the bars and pull the wires.

I have been told different stories regarding accessing the adjusting the handlebars on an 05 Electraglide. Does the whole fairing need to come off? or is there a way to adjust from the lock/ignition...

The front of the fairing is not all that difficult to remove, I believe you can reach the handlebar clamp after that. The only thing to be leery of is the two screws down low near the fork tubes-one each side, and having to unplug the headlite before pulling away the fairing completely.

How to get acsess to my handlebars to tighten

You must remove the Nachele to get to the handlebar risers. They are bolted through the top triple tree. Of course, you must also remove anything that prevents you from gettng the nachelle off such as windshield, fairing, and headlight. Note: Sometimes if you turn the front end fully to one side, you and get to the large nut or bolt from the bottom side without removing he nachelle. Turn the front end to the other direction to get to the other nut or bolt.

Now, keep one thing in mind, the handlebar risers are mounted in rubber bushings. This is done to reduce handlebar vibration. Harley has used this vibration dampening system for years on their big twin bikes. Your handlebars may not be "loose" but move due to the rubber mounting. Before I went to tearing my bike apart, I'd feel of some other bikes handlebars first and compare it to what yours feel like.

You can get more firm bushings for the handlebars. Matter of fact, you can get steel bushings that eliminate the rubber mounting.

Go to this site and check out page 990
http://www.vtwinmfg.com/Catalog1/VTwinCatalogIndex1.htm It is the V-Twin manufacturing catalog and shows the handlebar riser bushings. Good Luck

Cannot find Deutsch connectors for handlebar switch harness. Where are the connectors located?

Duetch connectors are the plastic multi wire plugs. All handlebar wiring likely terminates in the headlight housing.

Installing new handlebars, where are wire

One the earlier models, the handlebar connectors were down under the tank. But, Harley changes electrics every year so you never know. All I can tell you is "follow the wire".
