21" Conversion On A FLHTC

I have an Electra Glide Classic and want to go to a 21" front wheel with stock fender. I need the conversion parts to raise the fender up and anything else. Any pointers for my conversion or Pics?

Remove the fender and drill the mounting holes out to 3/8".  Get someone to help you hold the fender and wrap it in a blanket or beach towel.  Also tape up the bracket area with masking tape so you prevent scratches on the paint.  I cut a short piece of 2X4 which fit perfectly between the mounitng brackets so I don't flex the fender while pushing down with the drill motor.  When mounting the fender back on the bike, install the bolts barely hand tight, then install the new 21" wheel.  Take a 3" piece of 3/8 o.d. rubber hose and tape it to the tire tread, inline with the tire, and then spin the wheel around with the bike still up on the lift.  You will find the tightest spot will be at the back, about 5" behind the forks, almost exactly in line with the crossmember between the two frame downtubes.  Rock the fender forward, pushing the front down and the rear upwards.  tighten the bolts a little more to hold it in position and spin the wheel again until you get the most clearance in the tight area.  If you do not drill out the brackets to 3/8" then you will probably end up with the tire rubbing the inside of the fender once it heats up and expands.  I saw a beautiful Road Glide a few weeks ago with the rear of the fender completely burnt and the paint flaking off from the excessive heat, the owner just tried to loosen the bolts and didnt bother to drill out the brackets.  I have done 3 of these convesion myself and none of them rub.

I have installed many 21" wheels on all the touring modles and have never had to raise the fender with any conversion kit.It should fit rite on without any parts. Yo do need to loosen up the mounting bolts and rock the nose of the fender down a little to get more clearanse at the bottom.

2001 electra glide classic rear shock length

Harley usually uses a 12.5" shock but that could change from model to model and they don't list "shock length" in their specs. The best thing you could do it go to a dealer or find someone that has a stock bike and measure the front end height and rear shock length. Sorry but that's all I got.

Good Luck

No oil pressure for my 2005 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide

camplate check valve sticking, good time for an upgrade SEcamplate, hydraulic camchain tensioners, high volume oil pump, comes as complete kit for about $420. add another $150 for adjustable pushrods and never worry about it again,or replace the existing component youd save maybe $180 bucks but youll be back
thats why they changed the camplate and tensioners in 07, I just did the complete conversion on an 02 heritage it costed with labor about 1100 in your case your looking at 7 to 800 dollars just to get you going for another 30 or 40,000 miles or less and then do it again Im for a 1 time fix myself
