Question about 2006 Ducati Paul Smart 1000 LE

Riding Position- Good or Bad?

Hi Everyone, The February 2006 issue of BIKE magazine has the Sport 1000 on test and the crew has some very harsh criticism about the riding position. Here are some quotes: "It's official: the Sportclassic is the least comfortable bike in the world, bar none." "It's horrible." "It's so awful I couldn't wait to get off it." And finally...."the Ducati might be the coolest bike out there, but it takes comfort to another level-the fiery one below the sub-basement. It's hell." One editor claims the problem is with the bars..."low, wide, at a shallow angle, and about two inches too far forward." I'm curious. What do you Paul Smart and Sport 1000 RIDERS think about the riding position?

Personal opinion: I'm 6'4" and have watched (with amusement) as friends under 6' get on my Sport. They don't fit in any way that I might call humane. The seat looks high and the bars seem like they're a mile away. Their belly is really right down on the tank. It's not what I'd call comfortable, but it fits me fine and I'm getting more used to it all the time. Something that a co-worker who used to own a sport bike mentioned that I hadn't thought about is that the posture is unusual for a naked bike. He said that it felt odd without a fairing. The PS might alleviate some of that, but the Sport really is a superbike fit, but hanging out in the breeze. Having said all that, my left wrist is complaining about the clutch effort:bar angle ratio.

I was reading about a fix for this in IronWorks magazine just recently. I thinking January or February issue. If I remember right I think they actually said it is a kit with a stabilizer. I'll see if I can find the right one and follow up. they post the past issues on their website but I think you have to subscribe to the magazine to access the website. I love the magazine!! I have gotten lots of ideas and helpful information for my old shovelhead.
