On the right side of the bike, below the oil sight glass there is what looks to be a large 21mm bolt head. Remove this "bolt" and you'll find a cage like structure with a fine mesh screen on it. This is what's referred to in the Owners Manual as the "Engine Oil Intake Filter" or "Oil Mesh Filter" and the manual says that it only needs to be checked/cleaned every ~12000 miles. My philosophy is if I'm going to be getting oily anyway, it's worth the 50 cents for a new crush washer to check and clean the screen while I'm down there. There will typically be some small metal shavings on the screen, particularly for the first few oil changes. Like the sediment that comes out of your drain hole, If it's just a few very small pieces, you're probably fine. If anything looks too big, you may need to investigate further. Another thing to check is to make sure that the plastic cap is still in the end of the screen filter. I've heard of a few cases of this piece falling off (both on Supersports though). I don't know that the plastic would do severe damage from falling off in your crank case, but it would make it so that filter wasn't doing its job. Clean the filter screen. Some people just swish the screen around in a jar of gasoline or kerosene to clean it. I use a can of VP carburetor cleaner and just spray it off. Carefully replace the oil screen using a new crush washer. Make sure that everything sits flat while finger tightening it. I've bent the crush washer in the past while putting the screen on and found that I had an oil leak afterwards. My manual says to tighten the screen to 45 Nm (33 ft-lbs), check your manual to be sure.

Hi Jeromy, there is no part number for one and there is none present in an exploded view of the engine cases so the answer would be no.

How to change oil in a Honda Reflex Scooter


Things You'll Need
  • Socket wrench
  • 17 mm socket
  • Drain pan
Instructions
    • 1 Move the Reflex to a level, well-ventilated work area and lift it onto its center stand. Start the Reflex's engine. Let it idle in place for 3 minutes, then stop the engine and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  • 2 Unscrew the oil filler cap from the right engine cover, which is located near the rear swingarm below the right passenger foot peg, by hand.
  • 3 Unscrew the oil screen cap, located directly below the oil cap, using a socket wrench and a 17 mm socket. Drain the engine oil into a drain pan for a minimum of 5 minutes.
  • 4 Pull the oil strainer screen out of the oil screen port by hand. Spray the inner face of the strainer screen, facing the engine, with a parts cleaning spray to remove sediment or particles trapped in the strainer. Push the strainer screen into the engine.
  • 5 Replace the oil screen cap O-ring with a new O-ring. Screw the oil screen cap into the engine by hand. Tighten the cap to 14 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench and a 17 mm socket.
  • 6 Fill the engine with 1 quart of 10W-30 API SG motorcycle-grade engine oil, using a funnel. Screw the oil cap into place by hand.
  • 7 Start the Reflex's engine. Let it idle for 3 minutes, then stop the engine. Check the oil level, using the dipstick built into the oil cap. Add 2 oz. of 10W-30 API SG motorcycle-grade engine oil into the engine, if the oil level is below the dipstick's lower level mark. Do not add oil into the engine, if the oil level is at or near the center of the dipstick's upper and lower marks. Screw the oil cap into place by hand.

    Push the select button until OIL CHANGE TRIP is displayed. Next push RESET and hold it for 3 seconds or until it has cleared the screen. After clearing the screen ODO should be displayed.

    Your motorcycle comes from Honda usually with 10w-40 mineral base motorcycle oil. You can use any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Automotive oils use different additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not use any oil that says " Energy Conserving " on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you choose Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. If you want to try an inexpensive full synthetic oil that is JASO MA rated 15w-40 Shell Rotella T Synthetic fits the bill for about $4 to $6 a quart. All brands/manufacturers make a motorcycle oil. Some are very hard to find. Just make sure that the oil you pick has the JASO MA "Japanese Rating" to protect your motorcycle engine,clutch and transmission. If you change your oil regularly you should never have to clean the oil screen. The screen is only designed to pick up big pieces/chunks of metal, so unless there has been a catastrophic event in the motor there should be no debris to remove.

    I HAVE A 1992 HARLEY FAT BOY THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. OIL LEVEL IS GOOD ON THE BIKE. THE BIKE RUNS. WHAT DOU YOU THINK THE PROBLEM COULD BE?


    Your bike is equipped with hydraulic tappets. If you don't have any oil pressure, the tappets will rattle like a can of rocks. If you're still in doubt, there is a plug with a large "screwdriver slot" in it on the engine case just up from the oil pump. Take the spark plugs out and remove this plug. There is a spring and a screen in the hole. This is the tappet oil screen and it's purpose is to keep any trash that might be in the oil out of the tappets. Now, turn the ignition on and spin the engine just a bit. If you see the oil PUMP out of the hole, this is telling you that the oil pump is indeed pumping. I'd replace the oil pressure switch and see if that helps.

    Hi, here you go:

    Oil capacity is the same as the 250.
    1.5 ltrs at oil & filter/s change.
    700mls to 1ltr without filter change.
    This bike has what is called a dry sump. You fill your oil at the filler point that is located in front of the fuel tank on the frame. It uses the front frame tube as a container for the oil & pumps it back & forth to the motor. This bike has two oil filters.A cartridge type one located behind the small round cover held in place with two bolts that is located on the clutch cover.The other filter is a screen attatched to the spiggot which the hose from the frame(front bottom) slides over. Remove the hose(frame front bottom), undo the spiggot that the hose was attatched to,and as you pull it down to remove it you will see the fine wire screen that is attatched to it.
    When you remove the oil filler plug(in front of the fuel tank)you'll notice it has a dipstick on it. When you fill the tank the oil level will seem high. Run the bike first(to let the oil circulate) then check the level on the dipstick. It will now be much lower. adjust the level to the correct level & away you go!
    I recomend changing the the cartridge oil filter & cleaning the screen every time you change the oil. Use a high quality oil like Motul & change the oil regularly.
    Also keep your air filter clean & oiled properly.

There's no risk things fall apart when loosing the cover?Yes just undo the plug on the side near gear selector. Be careful with screen as it is plastic and has o-rings to seal it. Clean with degreaser works best I feel. Reassemble putting screen fully in first then carefully screwing plug back in.,
