Question about 2005 Ducati Monster 620 Dark 2 disc

1 Answer

Friction zone on 620 clutch

Me and my wife have a 2005 620 Monster and is complaining the the clutch leveler has a very long travel then engages suddenly and for a new rider she finds it very annoying. I tried the bike myself and sure enough it's exactly as she described. The only adustment I can see is the screw on the inside portion of the leveler, the owners manual was totally useless on any kind of clutch leveler adjustment. Anyone have any ideas?

There are nice adjustable levers avaliable at your Ducati store. A good thing if you have smaller hands. Doesn't cure the sudden engagement, but maybe makes it easier to control.

What kind of stands are available for a 2005 ducati 620 monster

Hi, Gapinor for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. My rpm turns higher but my speed still remains the same.

Sounds like you have a slipping clutch. You can check your owners manual for the proper clutch lever free play. A quick check would be to see where you are starting to engage the clutch or friction zone. With the bike warmed up and running, shift into 1st gear and then start to slowly releash the clutch lever. If the clutch does not start to engage until the lever is 80% released, then you can try adjusting the clutch lever free play. You can do this simply by sliding the rubber cover from the clutch lever. If the cable end is showing a lot of threads then you can loosen the larger lock nut, a serrated looking wheel with a slot in it, and give the cable end a few turns in. Lock in the lock nut and start the bike and see if the friction zone is catching earlier. Try adjusting to get it to catch within the middle of the travel. Once you feel you have the clutch adjusted, give it a road test to see if the engine will not rev higher without a corresponding increase in motorcycle speed. The owners manual will give you a precise range where the clutch lever free play should fall, usually measured from the end of the clutch lever. If the clutch seems to be adjusted properly, then a worn out clutch could be the problem.

Good luck.

Mounting 620 tires

I mount my own with spoons on my 620. Wrapped a little tape around them to protect the black paint. Didn't worry about the balance, at the speed I travel it was no issue. Have also spooned them on my DRZ400SM. I assume from your log on you are a porschephile, my winter beater 951 turboS just came out of hypernation yesterday. Had been commuting every day since late april in my bikes but when it hit freezing that was below my limit. bill

Gear problem

Errr... that doesn't sound right. When I had my 620, im pretty sure anything over 80mph would have my tach over 5k. You should honestly be up around there all the time tho. Ducs are much happier in the 5-6k RPM range. It might sound scary at first, but trust me that the engine runs nice and torquey up there.... its the happy place! enjoy.

Clutch

EXCEPT that the clutch engages way late (at the very end of just before releasing the lever completely). This has been noted in reviews of the moto. Any fix for this?I use to notice this on my wife's 620 particularly when it was newer. (now has 12K) We fit CRG levers and this helped but I think over time it has actually gone away. I do notice that the engagement window is narrow though. I get use to it pretty quick now. It still is pretty much my favorite bike in the garage. Wonderful under-rated bike in my opinion.,,,
