Question about 2001 BMW R 850 C

1 Answer

Igniton switch Ok so I put my bike up for the winter yesterday. Then I went to wally world to get a copy of my key made (only had 1 key). In the amount of time from when I was finished with my bike until I got to wally world I lost my 1 and only key jfakldjfkal;sdjfkasdl;jfkl;sdjasf;dfjas;. anyways I called up my local stealer and they said I jsut need to bring the ignition switch in so they can get the number off of it. I have torn 1/2 of this bike apart trying to remove this dam switch. It has 2 rings on the backside that are not allen heads so I cant figure out how to remove those and on the front are some round bolts that are not normal bolts or allen heads so I dont know how to remove those. Any ideas from anyone? the ignition switch is on the side (I am assuming by ignition switch they mean the part you put your key in). I found a series of numbers/letters on the inside front cover of the switch which was very easy to remove that is xxx-xx but I dont know if that is the number they need or not.

The numbers you saw are the right numbers. I know I make motorcycle keys.

Bike shuts off while riding

I would suggest the ignition switch is defective, examine the connecter to the switch for signs of overheating of the plastic connector shell and wire connectors inside the shell, if it shiows signs of heat then replace the connector and the switch. If the connector is ok then replace the switch itself. You may need to find the connector in a salavage yard or check with the delaer.

Siren works, but no power to instrument after recharging battery. Nothing changed on the bike, was just sitting all winter.

There should be a small fuse box near the battery with probably three fuses inside. Have you checked those?

Take the cables loose from the battery. Clean the cables. Might need a wire brush. Reconnect.

Fuse keeps blowing

Hi Anonymous, you have a hard/dead short that should be easy to find generally they are the easiest. Time to get out your test light and start tracking the wire from the power side of the switch, circuit breaker or the blown fuse receiver, when the test light quits lighting you are very close to your short. Will not start turns over ok but will not fire up

during the winter you can get build up on the tip of your spark plug that will prevent the engine from firing. remove the spark plug and soak it in gas for ten minutes or so. Dry it ogg with a clean towel reinstall it and it should start right up.

Bike won't start

sometimes they are hard to restart afetr setting for a while, try unplugging the power commander and then try strting it, if this works you may have a proggramming issue with your power commander.

Bike will not start no power

Touch a 12" piece of wire to one terminal then touch the other end of the wire to the other terminal. Got a really good spark? No spark = bad battery. Okay, so you do get a good spark. Check the wiring harness for an unplugged wire. Also check for loose connections and burned wires. Bad ignition switch? Kill switch turned on?
