Question about 2008 BMW R 1200 ST

1 Answer

Refuse to.. I have a bmw r 1200 that quit running about 2 years ago, its been passed around the family (all non-mechanics) trying to get it going again. Here's what happend: Driving on blue Ridge Pkwy my nephew rode through a puddle, the bike quit and hasn't started since. It ran great (considering it's years and miles) prior to the puddle. Everything seems to work fine except the plugs don't spark. new plugs have been installed, the coils have been checked by a bike shop, the regulator and rectifiers have been replaced, even replaced the kill switch and all fuses. I have gone through all wiring and connections for shorts, could not find any. When I put a meter on the points (with ignition and stop switch in "on" position) it reads 12.5V when I hit the starter button it the volts drop to around 10. What am I failing to do, any suggestions will be appreciated, I really want to be the one that gets this thing running agian. thanks, any suggestions will be appreciated.

Have you put a meter on the primary wire going to the coils? The coils can check out fine, but if you're not supplying voltage to the primary side, you'll get no spark out the other side.

Hi just bought a BMW C R 1200, being standing for long , last had service 300km ago. Think could be petrol, how would i drain. thanks Len.

When you are going to leave any vehicle sitting or standing for extended periods of time you should always drain the gas, as gas gets very funky over time. Although this may not be the problem. If you just bought the bike and it hasnt run since you bought it, I would have a mechanic look at both the engine and all of the electrical work.

How much does it cost to replace oil pump

it depend on the vehicle type and the year. The pump it self can run from 100 to 500 bucks, but the labor part will break most peoples. if you on the budget, locate good garage, it will save you quite a bit on labors, never take it to the dealer. Just make sure they give you a warranty on their work however, they are lots of mechanics does a side job between where they work. you can go to the dealer, ask around and speak to any mechanic and find out who does the side work, you will be surprise that you might find one. it could run you anywhere from 800 to 1200 parts and labors.

Central locking not working only drivers door opening whats wrong

Locks need to be resync'd. Lock doors at drivers side, go around to pass side unlock & relic 2-3 times. If you can't do from pass door then try trunk lock. If sync doesn't take, then one of your actuators are bad and I'd have BMW look at it or a good BMW specialty shop.

My BMW k100 LT shows the abs warning light. Is this an electrical fault or mechanical? It has not been running for over a year

usually electrical fault, maybe because you use it very seldom... common problems of bikes with is electrical... this kind of bikes needs to be started regularly of much better use it regularly to avoid this kind of situation... better take it to the bmw shop, maybe they'll just reset it...

How can I fix the engine from running rich? It runs so rich. It doesn't pass CA Smog? How can I isolate the problem? Also the car has been sitting in driveway for a couple years. But I started it for first...

this is what i did when my 89 chevy beretta failed and the guy handed me a pamphlet on turning in your junker car for a $1000...and he was kind of laughing like you failed and i got you money anyway because he thinks he knows that there's no way my car will pass again.
here's what i did.
#1 changed out all plugs and wires
#2 changed my oxygen sensor
#3 inspected all my vacuum hoses found a crack going to the MAP sensor
i just cut off that end and shoved it back on. and changed out the PCV valve and also found a crack in that hose but couldnt replace it, so i just rapped it real tight with black electrical tape.
#4 cleaned up throttle body real good and the IAC sensor with throttle body cleaner
#5 replaced the oil and filter
#6 serviced the transmission fluid
#7 replaced my catalytic convertor
#8 ran my car around and got it real hot before taking it in
retested and you should have seen the look on his face and i said thanks to him my car was only getting 19 to 20 miles to the gallon my dash computer says im getting 28 now. it was really low smog readings and he couldnt believe it.
so if you do all these things it cost $150 for a cheap cat
i think $40 for oxygen sensor
$30 for oil and filter
$60 for trans service
$40 plugs and wires
$7 throttle body cleaner
$8 PCV
total $335 it should pass
on my other car it failed smog so i went this time and just changed the cat and it passed..not quite as good as my beretta but a pass is a pass. try this and you'll probably at least pass! who knows you might even increse your mpg. Can you rate this, thanks!

Battery or radiator light on a 1999 BMW 318i SE

The below is taken from another site written a year ago:
What you are looking at is the Service Indicator. The green, yellow and red lights let you know when service needs to be performed. The green lights mean everything is still good. The yellow lights mean "anytime you're ready." The red lights mean do the service ASAP. There are also two other lighted areas. One says "inspection," the other says "oil change" (or oil service.) An oil change is an oil change. However, there are two inspections: Inspection 1 is normally at every other 15,000 miles; Inspections 2 is at every 30,000 miles. Your local BMW dealer should have a pamphlet listing all duties performed for each of the services. Inspection 2 can run you around $400-$800 depending on the service station/dealership's labor rates. Inspections 1 should be around 1/2 of that. You should have your oil changed about every 5000 miles. Dealership oil changes can range from $35-$65. A BMW that is well taken care of will last a long time.

FYI, don't be surprised if the SI (service indicator) board decides to **** out one day. I'm surprised to see yours is still working (they usually die within 10 years unless someone went thru the expense to have it replaced.) If/when it does go, just gauge your services by the mileage intervals I've listed above. I'd also recommend when you stop into (or just call) the dealership, go to the parts department and order an owner's manual for your BMW. Should be less than $20 and get to you in about a week unless they have one in stock.
When the service tech has performed the necessary service(s), he will reset your SI board so that only green lights are showing.
